If you are like me, you pocketed the Map of Dragon Burials from Delphine’s pad* at the start of A Blade in the Dark and made a note of it to chase it up later before you both legged it to Kynesgrove to scope one out. You have noticed one here. Here… There… You again swore to yourself to investigate the Map and the Dragon Burial Mounds. You made a note to yourself. You kept on adventuring. More Mounds… Empty… Full... You even made another note to chase it up later. A few more Miscellaneous Quests and a Main Story Quest here and there later... More mounds and then another, this one with Alduin hovering above, bellowing incantations and resurrecting another dragon.

Something had to give. Well, it was this way with me.

*(In addition to The Blades Sword on the wall, which is a great One Handed Sword to get early on)

I checked the Official Game Guide as well as several sites and it is understood that each of these 22 sites has one of four states, being: Dormant, Deserted, Awakened and Resurrection. There are 4 specific sites where you can witness a dragon being resurrected by Alduin.

Each Dragon Burial Site is initially sealed or Dormant but will open at some time, which is aligned to the progression of Acts I & II of the Main Quest from Bleak Falls Barrow through to Elder Knowledge. All mounds should apparently be opened by the end of Act II: Alduin’s Bane.

If, for example you are a wanderer and have not started Bleak Falls Barrow as part of the Main Quest, all Dragon Burial Mound’s should be closed over and Dormant.

So in an attempt to lengthen the experience for myself for my next playthrough play the Main Quest in one chain and to see all of the mounds and all four resurrections.

I have plotted the Dragon Burial Mounds in the order in which they enter an active state during the progression of the Main Quest, as though they were being travailed on foot… an itinerary of sorts, if you will.

I'll be sure to watch for Alduin, now..
Was wondering before why I couldn't damage this particular dragon. Then he started chanting, and I realized it was Alduin. He wasted his time, though.. that other dragon got stomped out pretty fast.

The four should give you a complete shout or something, though.. (Maybe the first one gives you the quest)

What can I say? I had to investigate further after searching GameFAQ's for Named Dragon's and coming up short on a definite number and when they became empty.

I thought I would add my reasons for doing it at the end in a move to get to the point more quickly... I see the irony.
