This is my "what if" for dwarven armor. It'd be cool to have dwarven armor that expands when you draw a weapon. Armor rating is an issue. We don't want decreased armor rating because what if something sneak-attacks you? So, it would be neat if, instead of increasing your armor rating when drawing a weapon, it increased some ability. Like for instance, the dwarven armor on your arms looks more like bracers when you are at ease. But, when you raise your hands to fight, gauntlets snap over your hands and fingers and you get an unarmed bonus.
Or, a helmet deploys from the back of the armor and you get some bonus, I dunno, like a chance to deflect arrows. Maybe a shield, too. So, when you are in third person sprinting in the armor, you don't see a shield. But, when you go on the offensive, a shield deploys from the forearm area of the armor and you get a shield bash bonus with a neat animation showing the shield do some extended, automated bashing.
Heck, it could even have built in dual swords that extend from the armor or one of those steam-powered protictiles like the bakugan robots use. /end brainstorm
