I do some times if I get a staff with a spell higher than my own abilities, but even then its not often.
I do see the advantage of using one for forgoing the cost reduction perks and enchantments, for as far as I know, the perks still effect staves (except for maybe the elemental potency perk, dunno if that has an effect on atronach staffs can anyone verify?), unfortunately you can't dualcast with them, and there are no master level spell staffs, but this isn't that big of a factor for me because I usually go with a spellsword/battlemage style of play, so dualcasting isn't that important to me.
The only real use of them I can think of is giving them to followers, especially summon atronach staffs.
BigRobb2389 posted... and even though it doesn't have alot of charge, the Staff of Jyrik Gaulderson is something I always carry around when im at low-mid levels, playing as a mage. It wrecks enemy mages.
This, plus summoning staves can be a lifesaver at early levels. Not much in the game can stand up to 10 Storm Atronachs cast one after another. I try not to use it unless I would otherwise die and lose a lot of progress.
