After exploring it for a bit, you realize it's completely empty. No signs of items, life or anything particularly interesting.

On a side note, I always search around a bit extra just to make sure I'm not missing anything. Found a gold mine like that once, no enemies no gold nothing just tunnels with nothing.
Turned out there was a tunnel hidden behind a water fall in the main area which led to about 4 gold veins. --- Favorite game to date - Xenogears \/-/-/-/\
