You mean the Fiji mermaid? That's been around since Oblivion.

No. The Fiji mermaid was an artifact exhibited by P.T. Barnum that consisted of the upper half of a juvenile monkey sewed to the back half of a fish. There are no mermaids in Skyrim.

ignore him TC he is a known troll. the fiji mermaid has been in the game since release, you have to be level 81 for it to appear though

The Fiji mermaid is quite a rare sight to encounter so I guess people just dismiss it as a joke. It does in fact exist in-game and is even linked to a quest (which involves acquiring a scale from the mermaid itself).

I was hanging out with a friend when he encountered it. He had told me about it before but I figured he was full of it. But apparently, if you're level 81, you can acquire a certain.... quest, that requires that you obtain a scale of the Fiji Mermaid

Simple answer no mermaid, play morrowind or daggerfall for mermaid things.
