Do you play in 1st person or 3rd person? and why?

I'm surprised so many people choose 3rd person. I think 1st person is where it's at.

Both, when traveling i am in 3rd, when in battle i switch to 1st so i aim easier as an archer

Third person sometimes when running or riding. First every other time ever.

I play in first person almost the entire time but I have a tendency to go third person for a few seconds every now and then, just to take a look at my character I guess. In Oblivion I used third person when sneaking, the centered camera was exceptionally useful for stealth.

3rd person, I like to know if an enemy is sneaking up on me

Third person.
First person is for FPS only.

I find pretty shocking that so many people use first person. It kills the immersion.

how is it less immersive being in first person compared to a floating camera behind your back
It is only human to commit a sin...

Always play in 3rd person.

Third person when I'm walking first person when I'm sprinting.

Third person does make you feel like a baddass in towns.
Relax, it's just a game.

Third person, I like to see my character, all his cool armor. And it doesn't really effect my ability to kill things. Sometimes Ill go into first person to make it easier to pick items up etc or just to mix things up.

To be honest though I really think more games should allow both perspectives. I know for some style of games it wouldn't really work out that great, but more games should allow you to choose 1st or 3rd person.
