is there any point to gems?

I know that some are used in quests like flawless saphire for the vendor in Riftin but all the regular ones I find just sell them right? Or are they used for something I haven't encountered yet?

If I ever cared about what you had to say, I'd stick a shotgun in my mouth and pull the trigger with my toes.

If you store too many in a chest you will be attacked by a dragon. Your best bet would be too spread them out over the map in random chests and other vessels. That way the dragon won't know you have a hoard of jewels.
