Is there any official lore behind spellmaking?

And if so, how accurate were Oblivion and Morrowind to that?

Not really. The Feyfolken books mention enchanting apparatuses (apparati?) that charged gold (which explains why the enchanting altars in Oblivion ate gold), but it also makes it clear that you don't have to use them to enchant objects. But that's enchanting, not spellmaking.

Yes. The lore is that once there was a great spellmaking mechanism in the ES series. Then, a bunch of whiny, spoiled, low brow brats decided they couldnt handle that all games werent meant to be played by everyone and thus we have Skyrim. I guess the extremely simple RPG mechanics of games like Fable and Elder Scrolls were just too complex for some. And dont give me any crap about how the spellmaking abilities were OP. It's a single player game and you dont have to make spells that are OP if you didnt want to.

Who needs to make op spells, when you can just enchant weapons and armor to do op damage/allow you to use magic without wasting magicka?
