Who would you choose? I normally choose Faendal because on my first playthrough he was my follower until I was level 46. But I like nords in general more than wood elves.
PS Answer in a role-playing point of view, not for the benefits (free archery training)

Sven seems like a jerk, so I picked Faendal naturally. --- CE's Resident Scotsman. Recently sigwiped.

My role play choice is based on the rewards personally so I picked the elf. Also, he is the first one I talked to so that helps. --- My dear mortal, don't you realize? The secret to my winning this board is the fact that you can grow without limits while the others never surpass theirs.

Sven? Not likely. Faendal trains archery and lets you get your cash back if he's a follower, so... FREE TRAINING!!! That means free leveling. --- "Great Gulgren's Sack!"

In an environment like Skyrim, why would I choose the Bard over the Archer?
What possible use, in a role-playing sense, could a Bard provide me? None.
Faendal every time. --- Did I spell something wrong? Please, feel obliged to point it out in the most insulting, patronising, pointless way possible. I will do my best to ignore you.
