Skyrim's the first time I've used a pure mage.

Simply because this is the first time I've liked the robes. I've used spellswords in both Morrowind and Oblivion, to great effect, but they wore light armor.

Look, for the last time: Kirby has explained it over and over!

Pure mages are great. That's probably been my favorite playthrough -- Master Illusion, Destruction and Restoration. Great stuff.

I just wish there were more spells =(

usually when i see people talking about conjuration, it's mostly about the weapons

but the atronachs/dremora lords are hella good

Illusion and Conjuration can be fun to use, but I don't see the benefits of Destruction and Alteration. Destruction spells start off too expensive to actually kill anything with one mana bar, then become cheap and weak. Alteration is counterbalanced by enchanting armor.

...And whenever I try to assist my summons with my own attacks, I end up attacking my own troops.

I like using robes but I wish they all had matching hoods to go with them. Half the best looking robes are either unobtainable or have a cheap effect.

I want variety with my mage gear but this game is more tiered for battlemages and spellswords than pure mages

i have a unique battle mage build where i invest in block and heavy armor + use 'Wall of' spells and continually shield bash enemies to keep them standing in the spells AoE

W@W was awesome for gun diversity. You saw the MP40, the MP40, and the MP40. - Gritzblitz56

may as well use the novice concentration spells. as far as i can tell they do the same damage and are MUCH MUCH cheaper to cast. although obviously they don't stick around after you stop concentrating

I just discovered the beauty of combining an elven helm with the telvanni robes. Never liked the helm before but with those robes you look awesome.
