It's really nice to see such a positive thread here. :) And all the tips and tricks were helpful, so thanks everyone. A lot of things I hadn't previously known.

Sticky requested.

This is what I love about this thread. Not only are there are lot of pro-active contributors with really cool information, but the environment is mature enough to repel trolling.

Tried a long time ago to make a similar topic on the PC board and got trolled a lot.

Any opinion on the build's alternative perk distribution ? Any mages out there, please contribute your insight. Is it really worth it to add mage armour to compensate for low defence ?

i've played as a mage twice. in both playthroughs, i never wore armor and i never used the the flesh spells from alteration either. as a mage i just rarely ever got hit, except by magic.

althought i find once you can enchant spell reductions pretty well, mana regen becomes pointless and there's no reason not to use armor.

Good to know. Mages don't have all the endurance of warriors, but does it even matter ? You can pretty much blast everything away with epic spells before they can even get close. That was how it worked in theory, but it couldn't be confirmed without asking someone who has walked the road of arcane knowledge. So thanks, now I realize that the alternate build was overkill.

On related news, there is an update on the build. One of the things that always worried me was that it doesn't have access to the Steady Hand line of perks for Archery. Watching the masters (SEPHxxFORxxLIFE and Nightingale Assassin), this is one of their essential tools. Therefore, a few changes are in order:

http://skyrimcalculator.com/#99867

Since Elven and Daedric have so little difference in damage, we are adopting Elven as standard. The point from Augmented Frost is also taken out. Now all levels of Steady Hand are purchased, as well as the Merchant perk.

Why the Merchant perk ? It allows alchemy vendors to start selling items they normally wouldn't, like small pearls, mudcrab chitin and powdered mammoth tusk. Sadly, human flesh and human heart still can't be purchased.

So now the new benefits are:

-> Easier sniping and easier shots in combat situations
-> Able to easily expand our stock of rare alchemy ingredients

What do you guys think? thief and assassin type characters, please share your experience with this perk.

I'm running a No-Magic(aside from Enchanting) character right now. An Orc. In all of my play-throughs, i have never had as much non-exploited/non-Vampiric DPS as i have had with Berzerker Rage + Dual Wield (L)Sword/(R)Enchanted Mace + Elemental Fury.

If you are running a warrior build, here is an interesting tidbit. Combining vampire necromage with the atronach perk and the blessing from the atronach stone gives you 100% magic absorption. Unfortunately , you will be unable to conjure anything at all.

BTW, is Beserker Rage as amazing as it sounds ? That dual wielding combo you mentioned must squish a dragon like it was a big fly.

A Necro-pire is on the "list"... I even have a Dark-Elf build concept laid out... "The Fallen Nerevarine".

If, in the mean time, i have experience i could share with a "Cleric" (heavy armor, mace/shield, resto, zombies (I posted my build on the skyrim blog)), an "Arcane Archer" (all archery, conjuration Atronachs, heavy into Enchants and Alchemy(i have a build outline drafted for a Skyrim Blog post this weekend)), and now i'm doing this "Barba-ranger" (dual-wield, no magic, 'zerk rage + Elemental Fury)... can you tell i like my D&D Archtypes??

So far, my Barbarian is only in the upper 30's.... but my gosh... it is a whirling dervish of destruction. I've become a HUUUUUUGE fan of Vegetable Soup. If i REALLY wanted to min/max and spend tons of time on cooking i could get by with 0 points invested in Stamina. But, i'm don't... but STILL it's incredible.

At the moment I've been messing moreso with the weapon combinations. Remember, dual attacks are based off the speed of the LEFT hand. So, equip a non-Ebony or Blade of Woe Dagger (their speed is bugged) in the Left Hand, and your dual attack is as fast as a Dagger... So, I've been trying the Dagger/Mace combo, and it IS effective. However, the lack of Dagger range is an issue... so, for a LITTLE slower attack rate i use a Sword/Sword or Sword/Mace, and only use the Dagger for Assassinations. Add in Berzerker Rage and Elemental Fury and everything pretty much melts in seconds...

Sounds like you are having a blast with that build. Please don't forget to post a link to your builds when they are up. Or better yet, a few videos.

Oh yeah, not sure if its on here, but Disintegrate lowers ALL enemies health by 15% with shock spells. If your not sure if they're resistant to a certain damage type, shock them to death. There's almost no enemies resistant to shock.

For those wanting to restoration loop, you can find lots of Salt Piles / Abacean Longfins and the other ones at the Riften Docks. Give the Argonian a Healing potion (She might be in Riften at the bar), and you can take them without stealing. Then just dive in, and there's usually a lot of fish. In a couple of minutes I can come out with more than enough salt piles, and 10-15 fish needed for the potions. (It's also the fastest way to Powerlevel Alchemy, and will make you tons of gold. Loop a few potions, your alchemy will skyrocket to 100, and each potion will be worth thousands)

There are some cases where your Dead Thralls will literally raise from the dead, so DON'T leave dead ones lying around NPCs you don't want getting murdered. I left a Forsworn Ravager in Dragonsreach (Killed her so I could sneak around in some thieves sidequests), and come back to enchant something to see a bunch of spells flying around, a Frost Atronach attacking some of the NPCs.

Ebony mail is a Daedric artifact rewarded to player upon completing Boethia's Calling. All the details can be found here:

http://elderscrolls.wikia.com/wiki/Ebony_Mail_(Skyrim)

Ebony armor refers to any armor crafted out of Ebony Ingots. When you create a piece of armor, it will have the same stats as any other found in stores, regardless of Smithing level.

Created armor, bought armor and the Ebony Mail can be improved at a workbench, and that is the only moment where smithing skill matters. Since the armor cap is 567 (80% damage reduction), you can use smithing potions and gear to obtain maximum defence from almost any combination of armor in the game.

The sole advantage that created gear has over bought ebony gear or the Ebony Mail is that you can enchant it with whatever you like, For the other two, you are stuck with whatever they have.
