Is there a mod that makes you pick up books instead of reading them?

So that you can only read it from your inventory? I don't like that you can just read any old book out in the open - especially owned books.

You could always just not go past the first page and immediately take/steal it.

If it's a skill book you will still get the skill point because your character "reads" the book, even if you don't. I assume that's why you'd want a mod to not read skill books on pick-up. They are more valuable to read later on when your skill is high since they give a full skill point no matter when you read them.

This one makes you pick up skill books instead of automatically reading them. I use it and it works fine. Not sure if that's what you're after though because it doesn't affect normal books.

I kind of like that you read owned books without taking them. Like if you're a guest in someone's house you can pull a book off the shelf and read it without being considered a thief.

The skill book thing I understand though. Does it cause any problems with bookshelves?

Looks like I'll have to make do with this one. Thanks.

I had this problem also. I hated that my warrior was leveling up just because he picked up a book that he just wanted to sell for loot. If I am never going to cast an illusion spell do I really want that skill to go up?

The mod posted would be your best bet.

I'm glad your opinion differs from mine. What a boring place this world would be if it didn't.

Even if you don't use the skill, the skill point increase still contributes XP towards increasing your character level... and that eventually earns you a perk you can spend on skills you DO care about. What you probably don't want is to level up unused skills early in the game, which makes saving those books for later quite useful.

Simple. Just press 'E' twice simultaneously.
