I'm kind of torn between the few big ones. The way I see it, its either SPERG, SkyRe, ACE, or Requiem.

Then maybe duel or deadly combat to change the combat

and a few spell packages like apocalypse thrown in for variety.

Whats the best combo of those? Which do you guys prefer for a balanced mage experience?

It really depends on how different you want the game to be. SkyRe is very popular but it will change and get rid of various spells as well as make various unrelated changes to the game. If you want something less intrusive, I would suggest Balanced Magic. It simply changes the perks to be more useful and works to balance the magic system so that you feel more powerful as your skills increase.

You are aware that any type of overhaul will break your game because none of them have been set up with UID (That means unique ID's) all the overhaul does is change, rename, and re-position what's already there.

The game requires original ID's to function as it should, and the overhaul changes the actual values on the original ID's. And because of that, it breaks the game, because if you look at count and users in the creation kit it will show you how many things in the game use those specific items and how many instances of that item get used.

Those uses get tied into scripts and triggers, activation's and who knows what else, and in order to change them all correctly, you have to change ALL instances of where that specific aspect gets used, then change how many aspects use it to the corresponding thing it's tied to.

And no one is going to do that much work. In order to properly do an overhaul, you need to create a completely new set of whatever you're doing and then proceed from there, this includes meshes, NIF's, know how of scripting...you get the idea.

The point is that people don't know how to properly mod.

anyone that tries to tell you this isn't true is out to let you wreck your game because they have absolutely no concept on how to make mods.

I just very thoroughly explained i n great detail how the people that make overhauls do them, and this can be proven by opening it up in the Creation kit and seeing it for yourself first hand.

So Trying to say I'm full of BS or that the overhauls don't do that, when it's right there in the editor, where you can see it, is someone who is clearly a troll and knows nothing about how to make a mod compatible so they don't mess up the game.

If someone is so dense and ignorant that they don't understand that a spell can be used by up to 1000 things in the game or more, and think that changing the base of that one thing that is used by all those things, and think it's not going to affect anything else it uses, really shouldn't even be using mods or be on a forum spouting off nonsense telling others what they clearly know nothing about isn't true.

If you would like even more detail about how something interacts in the game when it comes to the creation kit, I'll be more than happy to do so.

I like invested magic. Does not change much, but you can keep up spells like Stone Flesh forever as it takes away your max mana.

It also changes Destruction magic. Gives your damage spells more damage if you have the perk to lower the cost of the level spell.

You can try all of them. Really. There is no best, but many will switch mod since they wanna do something different on their next playthrough. Although, there are something to note when using the overhaul. SjyRe and Requiem is almost a total overhaul, so many othere gameplay mods will not work with them, or at least, won't be supported by their system.

If this were the case, then why are the overhauls among the most popular mods out there? If they were as gamebreaking as you claim, people would stop using them.
