Why support the Empire? *minor CoW spoilers*

I've always assumed everyone (or most people) we're Stormcloaks since:

- The Empire tries to kill you in the beginning of the game (While the General of the whole Empire is standing right there)

- The Empire is allied with the Thalmor, who is pretty much targeted as an enemy throughout the game (Main storyline, College of Winterhold, that side-quest where they kidnap that woman's son, plus they killed the blades)

These are the two solid reasons, along with how Ulfric argues that Skyrim shouldn't pay the price for the Empire's failure and be taken over. Most people argue however that the Nords (mostly Stormcloaks) think that the Nords are the all mighty master race. However, this is just a fraction of the Stormcloaks, and even the Empire does this in terms of the Thalmor is the master race.

So why support the Empire? Because Tamriel should united? The Empire isn't the Empire any more since they have surrendered and allowed the Thalmor to take over. Ulfric is right, to fight and die rather then let his nation pay the price.

You do know that the Thalmor want the Stormcloaks to win, right? Their whole plan is to put Ulfric in charge. Divide the Empire so they're easier to fight next time, and Skyrim will be easy pickings once that egotistical maniac is in charge.

Stormcloaks are arguably just as big as Thalmor puppets, and are unarguably more racist.

Because the Stormcloaks are even worse.

1. is only incident, although a big one, they do end up apologizing at least. Plus you end up getting saved by Hadvar.

2. Yeah, they're playing by Thalmor's rules, but will more than likely rebel when they feel they have the strength. If they never signed that treaty they would have got their ass kicked. Its not like the Empire really ENJOYS being under the Thalmor, but sacrifices have to be made if they want to keep the peace and build up strength to fight back.
If you watch "Doctor Who" and play Pokemon Platinum, this will blow your mind-

Point 1 was probably the sensible option for them to take, given the circumstances of the arrest. I give them serious points for that.

Point 2 is that both sides are being used by the Thalmor. The only thing the Thalmor don't want is a swift end to the Civil War that doesn't deplete the resources of both sides... so I generally assume that a victorious Empire would end up stronger than any victorious Skyrim + potenetial alliance with the remaining Empire. Anyone can make up anything about this, though.

In the end it's personal preference. I hate Ulfric, I like Tullius. Simple as that.

How do you know the Thalmor want both sides to defeat each other? Where do you find this?

Another nation(I cannot remember how to spell its name so I wont try) has been fighting the thalmor since the empire signed the truce. 20 years, one nation has been able to keep the thalmor at bay, not the entire empire just one nation. If they can do it so can skyrim, especially if ulfric would teach the thu'um to a special group of soldiers.

You mean Hammerfell?

They're different from Nords, plus the Thalmor are already well spread inside Skyrim. Taking Skyrim out from the inside will be easy for them. Even if the war kept going, the Stormcloaks will still eventually lose to the Empire's sheer numbers and war prowess. They're fighting a losing battle. Though weakened in the current era, the Empire is still a formidably powerful nation.

You also can't just easily teach the Thu'um to anyone. Ulfric was talented and trained with the Greybeards and learned a shout or two. It's still nowhere near the level of the dragonborn or the greybeards. It'll take a long time to make shouting a common Nord skill as they were back in the days of the Dragon Wars.
