Mercer should be able to beat Heller.
I think of it like this; who was stronger, Dr. Frankenstein or his creation? Just because he made him, and they had the similar parts, doesn't make Mercer stronger. Maybe Mercer had reached the peak of his capabilities, maybe Heller simply offered better genetic material to work with, who knows? I like Mercer better myself, but with the disappointing sales of P2, we'll probably never get an official answer.

TBH, it does make sense for Heller to beat Mercer. Hopefully there is a P3 that will answer any questions we have
it would make less sense for them to create a new character just to kill him off
Well, I guess Heller evolved in larger stepping stones, I mean he's had brawlers, juggernauts, evolved, and a goliath consumed. And there was the whole Heller having special DNA which probably allowed his body to recieved the virus better and adapt to it better too. but don't forget that at the beginning Heller didn't stand a chance against Alex, it's not like he all of a sudden got this strong. Plus Heller seemed to be an outright better fighter than Alex.
Also, what difference does it make that Alex was the first infected? He's still in reality the same Alex Mercer he's been his whole life since then, the Virus didn't create a whole new person based on Alex, it reanimated him, and caused Amnesia, if he infects someone else, will it still not be the exact same virus?
I mean seriously, at this point, people are just whining, I was one of the people who honsetly didn't like the idea of Heller being the new protagonist or Alex turning bad. But eventually I started to like Heller, and didn't mind evil Alex too much, sure I was hoping he would still be good in the end but it didn't turn out that way, maybe Alex is still out there and he just made a clone? Maybe he's still alive inside Hller? Maybe he's dead? Either way I liked the ending and if Alex is somehow alive cool, if not, I'm cool with that.

Mercer IS the virus, alive and sentient, with almost unlimited potential, able to create mass armies of grotesque abominations.
Heller was a puppet of Mercer, given abilities BY Mercer himself, and isn't actually THE virus like Mercer, but just a hybrid human.
So if Mercer made him, and Mercer made everything, and Mercer IS the virus itself, wouldn't Mercer be able to easily dispatch his own creation? logic says yes, but I guess that wouldn't make for a great sequel, or would it? I'd have actually preferred to play as Mercer again.
Just my thoughts.
Actually, the Mercer=Blacklight is something that was forced into the last part of the game and goes against everything we know about the virus. All in all it felt like something that was tacked on at the last minute because somebody pointed out that the game was really about vampires.
The only good thing this game did for the story was to completely drop that aspect like the diseased cancer that it was.

I hope it's a three way in P3, with mercer heller and pariah.
- different styles and abilities for each character
- different mission objectives
- different endings depending on how you play each character.
- free roam with 3 different characters.
upgrading would be interesting though.

Oh... Yeah, I guess if you're into that sort of thing.

Just as Mercer did in the first game, Heller grows more powerful over time. Since Mercer has had his powers substantially longer, it stands to reason he should be much more powerful than Heller, especially after absorbing his evolved lieutenants, yet during the fight, Mercer didn't exactly impress me. He didn't seem to have any new powers at all, unless you count summoning those birds. The final fight was a little underwhelming in that regard.
Despite those issues, I'm still fine with the game. I really enjoy Heller's personality. His badass, irreverent attitude goes well with all that power.
People really misinterpret this. Like a real person, Alex grew in strength and abilities and after the peak, comes the fall, which is the only logical explanation as to why he's weaker than when he was at his prime. Apparently, summoning the birds is also an ability used by an Evolved Heller consumed in a side mission. Heller is also a combatant unlike Mercer and retains his memories. As such, he has a better mind for combat than Mercer ever did. James' DNA thing is questionable, but considering how fast he grew and his immunity to consumption lends some credence to the DNA argument.
watch when heller fought mercer before e was infected. As a normal human he was able to outmaneuver and outfight mercer. (though he could not win due to not being able to hur him) With the speed and strength boosts why would'nt someone who was an obviously superior fighter in terms of maneuvers and technique to begin with be able to win?
