FlyingDeCowPosted 4/29/2012 5:46:18 AM | Who should I teach dualcast to? Palom, Porom, Leonora... I'm leaning towards Porom, but I dunno. Leonora isn't as good, but has more versatility. I feel like she'd get a lot of use from dualcast.

It depends on your leveling style. If you are a person who enjoys maxing a person's level, then give it to Leonora, as she will learn the most powerful spells from both White and Black. If you don't enjoy levling as much, then i would give it to Porom, as white mages are much more valuable to the team then black mages. Whichever you choose, you should give that character all the soma drops you can find, as using dualcast will drain magic quickly |
MaggieTheKattPosted 4/29/2012 10:52:48 AM | Purely personal opinion, but I like giving it to Palom. I usually had Kain and Ceodore in my party, who could help take care of buffing, and once a white mage is done with the major buffs/debuffs like Haste/Slow/maybe Blink, then...they get to sit around and twiddle their thumbs until someone gets hurt. Usually you won't need to double cast Curaja to bring everyone back up to health. On a black mage, you can continue spamming Nuke/Bio/whatever until the end of battle.
Of course, if your party consists of no other white magic users other than Porom, you'd probably get more use out of it on her than I would. |
FlyingDeCow (Topic Creator) Posted 4/29/2012 12:46:31 PM | I have decided upon Leonora. No one else can combine Black and White magic in the same turn. She becomes kind of a one-man army. --- "My head's filled with only LIQUID OOZE now!" -My trainer card Pokemon Black FC: 4641-9843-8548 -- Mike |
Absolute23Posted 4/29/2012 2:24:34 PM | Leonora is a good choice if you at least get her good black magic. Granted, that's level 85 for Flare. I don't know why they made her spell list with such a gap there. Plus, most mages learn Flare 30 levels before her. having her learn it at 75 would have been more acceptable. Granted, its countered with the fact that she has the worse HP growth in the game, so even at level 85 she's not overpowered.
But yea, its nice casting Curaga and then Flare in one turn. |
_ClintonPosted 4/29/2012 4:48:16 PM | Leonora is the best choice for it no matter what IMO. |
ChromaticAngelPosted 4/29/2012 7:14:26 PM | Leonora is the best choice. Leonora can do everything Porom can do, and the only thing meaningful thing Palom can do that Leonora can't, is dualcast Quake.
Unless you really have a hankering for dualcasting Quake (which, I admit, is really awesome), you really should give it to Leonora. --- "The easiest way to stop piracy is ... by giving those people a service that's better than what they're receiving from the pirates." ~ Gabe Newell. |
Dark_EinherjarPosted 4/29/2012 8:49:27 PM | Well, despite Leonora's versatility, I won't say she's an automatic choice for Dualcast.
Leonora is a very poor character as far as offensive magic (black magic + Holy) is concerned: she takes WAY TOO LONG to get a decent selection of black magic (AGA spells at LV78+? WTF); by the time she gets her best offensive spells (starting with Holy at LV70) you'll probably won't need them because you'll be so overleveled that the game will be a walk in the park.
Therefore, Leonora's main role is that of a dedicated white mage, which means healing and utility spells. That alone makes her a better choice for Dualcast than Palom most of the time, because utility > more damage. When compared to Porom, however? I don't know... despite her variety, Leonora has worse HP, MP, Stamina and Speed than Porom, and also learns spells at a slower rate (Porom already has all of her white magic by LV56, while Leonora doesn't even have Curaja by then). Add Holy to the mix, which Porom gets at LV52, and the conclusion is: Porom can make better use of Dualcast than Leonora most of the time, at lower levels.
However, there's also another issue: how are you assembling your party? This is important for your decision as well. For example, my final party consists of two physical attackers (Kain and Edge, both of which also have utility in their abilities) one white mage (Porom), one black mage (Palom) and one mixed fighter (Golbez). Because I have only one healer, Porom is automatically the best choice for Dualcast here; if I were running Rosa or Leonora instead of Golbez, however, I'd probably put Dualcast on Palom because I'd have two white mages already and he'd be my only source of black magic.
Ultimately, there isn't a right or wrong answer when choosing who will keep Dualcast: it may depend on a lot of factors, including, of course, how much you like each character. --- Warrior of Light: "the Light will always be with us!" _ClintonPosted 4/30/2012 9:07:52 AM | Leonora can equip Sage's Robe, Porom can't. Leonora can learn Osmose and Stop, Porom can't. Granted thinking about it some more, I guess those are her only advantages over Porom. She does take too long to learn her spells. |
VeghEstherPosted 4/30/2012 9:12:01 AM | I used neither I used the same default FF4 party for TAY but between Palom Porom and Lenora I'd rather use the White mage of the mysidia twins to dual cast either Curaja EVERY turn in boss fights.
Or to cast Slow on the boss and Protect/Shell on the party in 1 turn. |
