OK, I have already cleared FF4 am going to play Interlude soon but have lot of questions on The After Years:

0) Going to play the PSP version of The After Years and need a FULL walkthrough even if it is not here on GameFAQs (maybe a video walkthrough on Youtube?), can anyone point me in the right direction? I really want a full bestiary...

1) I hear a lot about raiding the different dungeons for all the items on the different chapters but have no idea on what they are talking about. Does it mean that you can redo the different chapters so you can get everything? Please explain.

2) I also hear about grinding to the max level, does that mean that there is a level cap in the different chapters so that the cap is not level 99 until the later chapters?

3) I hear a lot about the Tail items and I know they give good stuff, but where do I get them and where (and when) do I trade them for the good items? What about Adamantite? I hear there are many pieces scattered through the different chapters and tales. What is their purpose?

4) Do the items I get in the different chapters and tales come together in the item list by the final chapters and tales? How does the item system work when the different tales and chapters are separate?

5) Do you have free roaming in the different chapters and tales? How are the shops? Is money hard to come by?

6) I hear a LOT about this place called The Depths, but how does that work and when is it available? Please explain.

7) Not really from The After Years but I need a COMPLETE bestiary for The Interlude, can anyone point me in the right direction? Even if that means following a video walkthrough, I really want a full bestiary for The Intrelude.

8) ULTIMATE equipment. Where are they? Are there enough pieces for everyone? (This includes the characters that can die or be disposed of in the different chapters and tales. Any pieces I should be on the lookout for?

That is all I really want to know for now, thanks in advance!

0-My guide on gamefaqs is complete, with the minor detail of no locations for the monsters. But me and another person are working on getting them in. For most of the monsters you can find with little issues and if you need a hard to find monster then send me an email and i will try to help

1-After you complete the story in each tale, you are able to go back in and do what is called a Challenge Dungeon. These dungeons have a lot of chests in them and most of the equipment is stronger then what you find in the regular story. at the end of each dungeon is one final chest usually guarded by a monster. This chest contains the best stuff in the dungeon and will have something different each time you come in. One thing to note is that these final chests will give you 1 piece of Admanite which you can trade for equipment in the final story.

2-In each story there is a level cap. for the most part the cap is 40 but in Ceodores, Kains, and Lunarians the cap is raised to 50 and 45 respectively. In the Crystals (the final story) the story is split into three sections. In the first section the level cap for your four characters is raised by 10 levels. for the second and third sections the level cap is put on 99

3-In my guide i mention where you can find the different tales in each chapter. Just look for the ---Tail Alert--- and read the section right next to it for the details. You are able to trade the tails and admanite after the second section of the final story in a place refered to as ???. At the end of the second section of my guide i list what each tail can be traded for.

4-When you load up Kain's tale and The Crystals, you are given the oppourtunity to upload some files into the game. That is how you transfer items to other tales. And yes all of your items will transfer to the final story as long as the number of items don't go above 99. Equipment and levels will also transfer when you upload your save files. I don't really understand what you mean by the last section of this question.

5-no, your ability to roam is severly limited. The only time you have complete control of where you can go is in the final story and you can only go into the towns for the most part. Most of the dungeons are blocked off. Most of the time you are in one area and the shops will upgrade themselves so that they sell better equipment and items after you pass a certain part in the story. One thing to do is to make sure that you have every item before you leave a dungeon because you might not be able to get it again. Money is not that much harder to get then it was in the first game.

6-The Depths are the last 20+ floors of the final dungeon, they are not extra

7-i can't really help here

8-There is no real ultimate equipment in this game. Most of the stuff you get in the final dungeon can be used by multiple people. And the only things to be on the lookout for is the armor, most of the weapons are forced on you through boss fights.

I hope this helps

Don't know of any video walkthroughs but I know of this one.
http://finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Walkthrough:Final_Fantasy_IV:_The_After_Years/Drake
The Final Fantasy Wiki even has a complete item list to go along with the bestiary. Along with a complete character list.

1)

After you complete a chapter you'll get to save clear data for it. After that you can access a challenge dungeon in it. Ever chapter has 1 with a single exception to that. You should never have to make clear data again for the most part, but there are two exceptions:
1. If you don't save Calca and Brina (the overall worst characters in the game by far) in Rydia's chapter you can still collect their items that you need to do it in the clear data. However to really save them you have to view a cut-scene that says you saved them and beat the final boss again (the final boss is the one where the "man in black" saves you). You then save this clear data. Don't just have the items with you when you go to the final chapter, you need to view Rydia saving them!
2. If you want to change what Ceodore's chapter passes on, you have to start up Kain's chapter all over again and then beat that again. So make sure you get what you want out of his before you go to Kain's!

The challenge dungeons have a ton of extra gear that while nice is outclassed in the final chapter with only a few exceptions:

1. You should at least make sure to stock up on rare Adamantite is all I'm saying (there are only 10 in this version, none of which can be found in the final chapter).
The Adamantite can be traded in the final chapter (when you have access to the "final" final dungeon The Depths) for very powerful defense gear that anyone can wear.

2. Certain magazines are nice as well for the few chapters that have them. Along with certain rings.

IMO it wouldn't hurt to hunt the dungeons of everything you can get though, just because the final chapter has better gear doesn't mean that the challenge dungeon's gear is worthless right away.

2) I also hear about grinding to the max level, does that mean that there is a level cap in the different chapters so that the cap is not level 99 until the later chapters?

Ceodore's and Kain's level cap=50 (you might want to be careful about over-levelling "Kain" as in the "Hooded man" in Ceodore and Kain's chapters, yes you can reach level 50 in Ceodore's, making Kain's a walk in the park).
Lunarian's chapter=45 for the "man in black" character of it, 40 for the other character that isn't a final member of your team anyway (chances are he dies)
Rydia's, Yang's, Palom's, Edward's, Porom's, Edge's=40

Final chapter=99

So yes you can't reach 99 until the final chapter

Already explained Adamantite. However tail items are super hard to get items (as in rare drops) that reward very good stuff (well except the green tail, the idea behind that can go **** itself).

Tail items themselves are dropped by very powerful (like "game over" in a few rounds powerful), very rare (like **** this level of rare), and very picky about when they come out (as in they only come out on a certain moon cycle) enemies. In this version at least they have a special encounter sign (the screen will shatter) when you find one.

You can trade for MOST tail items when you have access to the Depths, just like the other stuff.

I say most because there are exceptions to this. 3 actually:
1. Palom's chapter has a black tail in it. You are going to need "a lot" gold to get it though. Visit the pub for details and buy the things that cost 10,000, then you need to find the person that sells something for 50,000, then you find the next person that sells an item for 99,999. You will get the black tail out of a treasure chest as you leave the room, don't forget it ok!
2. Edward's chapter has a gold tail. You get it by trading 5 silver tails for it from the guy that loves tails (he is in the waterfall cavern for Edward's chapter), you get ONE silver tail by trading 5 bronze tails for one. So you will need "25" bronze tails to get one gold tail. The chapter itself has about 4 bronze tails and 2 silver tails in "out of the way" spots to find. However, to get enough tails you will have to grind off enemies that "have tails" because for Edward's chapter only "tailed" foes have a chance at dropping a bronze (for the most part) or silver (a few rare in general foes). Silver and Bronze tails don't have a use out of Edward's chapter!
3. In the final chapter you can find the item "small tail" (oh and the worthless decoy "small tale") around the world in out of the way places (very out of the way, most are on very special spots on the world map). There are 21 in total. Now in the Eblan cave you can once again find the tail merchant and trade these worthless items for very rare tail items. 7 will get you any SINGLE tail you want (besides Pink, which is once again dropped from those Pink Flan foes, who will be in this chapter in the final dungeon), 14 will give you a only ONE in the game rainbow tail. The rainbow tail is very good! Oh and if you want, feel free to get a green tail and regret your choice later like I did in thinking that it helps with the rare drop rate that much (the drop rate is THAT LOW).

Oh and for the 1st two while they might not have a special foe that drops a tail in their chapter, for the final chapter they will. However character chapters are the best places to get the special tails.

Ceodore-blue dragon. You can hard reset the game and get easy fights with this.
Kain-blue dragon and grey coeurl, no reset tricks and overall one of the hardest enemies out of these rare foes is a Grey Coeurl IMO.
Rydia-green dragon. Easy reset trick by the 2nd final boss of the chapter, you can fight 2 in a row. Green dragon is like blue dragon really, watch out for powerful lightning. If you choose to wing it on the floor with the healing pot, you can fight green dragon's in a monster egg. If you cast stop on that EGG (not the dragon) you have easy fights if you aren't strong enough to take a dragon out of the egg (fun fact, at level 40, you are strong enough, just don't get careless)
Palom-no reset trick because there is no dragon, not to say his chapter doesn't have rare foes though (2 types of gil birds, good luck killing them)
Yang-no reset trick and by far one that could have used one. Red dragons are evil, hunting them is evil, if you are going to trade small tails, this is a good one.
Edge-Behemoths, hard reset makes you only have to fight like 8 encounters before you can find one. Behemoths also drop nice stuff in general to make up for purple tail not being that good anyway. Remember, they are counter driven and DON'T USE MAGIC!
Porom-hard reset isn't going to do much, except about a 1/2 hour of fighting at least. Oh and note that White Dragons are evil.
Edward-no rare foe, but good luck getting the money tail.
Lunarian-Ebony Dragon, reset trick will get a fight after a small number of normal fights. Note that this dragon will murder you if you aren't careful.
Final chapter-Flan Princess (Pink Flan), in the "final" dungeon. In the "same room" they were in in FF4. Now with a lunar cycle and still very annoying berserk spell. They come in groups of 3 this time though at least.

4)

Yes, the items you have in different chapters will come together in the final chapter. You won't have 99999 potions though because the max you can get is 99. Make sure you take off various equipment ok on most characters ok.

5)

Money is only hard to come by in Palom's and Edward's chapters. Rydia's chapter has free roaming until you leave the Underworld, the final chapter has free roaming until you really fight Cecil. Shops vary by chapter.

6)

The Depths are the "final" final dungeon in this game. The final dungeon itself is 13 or so floors before you reach the depths and ends with a fight where you can kill off the "man in black" if you want (I don't know why you would though, he is at least in the top 5 characters in this game IMO), the depths is 25 or so floors. They are connected by an elevator at least, so it isn't like in FF4 where you have to do the 13 or so floors in one sitting.

7)

I guess check the FF Wiki, I don't really care about the Interlude or the bestiary (due to all of the rare fights you need to actually fill it, think finding Pink Flans was hard in FF4, well the Interlude has far more)

8)

I think I covered the ultimate equipment so far, you will get a good chunk of it though in the final dungeons and from things like various super bosses. However of course there isn't enough equipment. 4 people can equip the Ultima Weapon for example (Cecil, Ceodore, Kain, and "man in black"), but there is only 1.

The true super boss of this game (made for PSP) will test just how well you can manage a large party though, you need to make 3 parties. So you need 15 people, I can steam roll that boss having 15 people full geared, there may not be enough equipment, but there is enough at least to make 5 characters happy.

The interlude FAQ can give you a full bestairy, and I would recommend getting the entries as soon as he lists them. And there are 1-2 rarer encounters in each area.

I see, so that is how it works and the power and equipment abound. Thanks very much for the insight!

I wonder, would it be too difficult to get everyone to their max (capped) level before the final chapter? You see, I have a code that lets me multiply the experience I receive and, after hearing how it all works, I am very curious to see how powerful the characters can get. This game is so interesting that I can't wait to clear out the Lunar Ruins in FF4, clear The Interlude and start The After Years!

The only chapters that have any trouble at all getting to their level cap are:
Ceodore: Unless you grind or go solo you aren't reaching level 50 here easily
Kain: 4 characters now to reach level 50, plus catching Kain up if you got his class change at level 15.
Edward: His chapter has the weakest enemies in it.

Not quite true. You can do it with less than 15. I use 2/5/4 - Cecil/Ceodore, Yang/Palom/Porom/Edge/Ursula (though you could probably get away with 2-3 here as well), and Rosa/Rydia/Golbez/Kain can handle the last part. I do have a few level 99 characters though.

Oh, I know that the super boss can be defeated with less than 15 people, the moment I knew that we could choose between a lot of party members in the final chapter I knew that it was possible.

Well, now that I understand the basis of the game, I have to ask: I there anything in particular that I must absolutely prepare for or some items that I should not even dare miss?
