Is there a big difference between using Power vs. Potent items on a monster?

I have a Chichu that's around level 40, and I have tons of Potent Crystals ready to go once I get him up to lv. 5 monster materials, but will this hamper his stats a lot? Like what kind of difference in strength am I looking at if I use potent items instead of power items the rest of the way?

If you use potent orbs, you'll get the stat boost and the bonus equal to your stat boost.
Making your monster more well rounded.
If you take a strength orb, you'll get your boost and a bonus to strength alone. Forgot how high that was. But higher than the potent's bonus.

Either way, Ruin will suffer, as its damage output is based on the magic stat. Certain monsters resist physical damage, so Chichu is forced to use Ruin. In return, it's not as useful against this kind of enemies. Also, the HP will be much lower than they could be.
