Lucky coin - detailed analysis and definitive answers

#1ka243Posted 2/27/2012 1:55:55 AM
I'd like to clarify some things once and for all concerning the lucky coin fragment. I have seen answers all over the place for what is and is not required for this fragment. In this topic, we are only talking about the fragment, not the serendipitous trophy.
1) Do the gains of 7777 coins have to be net ? For example, can I start with 20 000 coins, lose 10 000, then gain 7777 back for a net total of 17 777 at the end and still get the fragment?

2) Do the gains of 7777 coins have to be in one slots session? For example, can I win 5000 coins, exit the slots, re-enter the machine and win 4000 more and still get the fragment?

3) Do the gains of 7777 coins have to be in one game session? For example, can I win 5000, exit the slots, save, exit the GAME, come back and win 4000 more and still get the fragment?

4) Do gains from chocobo races count? For example can I win 7000 coins in chocobo races, win 7 coins in slots and still get the fragment?

I am quite frustrated by this fragment as I've won several 5K jackpots and haven't gotten it yet. After each jackpot, i left the slots and saved then continued playing. However, I haven't managed to get 2 5K jackpots without turning off the console in between them.

I have had the serendipitous trophy for a long time which i got from chocobo racing. If you can answer these questions, please indicate how sure you are of each answer and what your personal method to get the fragment was.

Thanks in advance

One Slots Session
One Game Session
Net Profit (I think)
Chocobo Race Profits Do Not Count

Best method: Autoplay holding down L1 when attendant says "It's like a hot summer's day!" and start with 20,000+ play coins.

Though I was lucky and got mine in 6 minutes 30 seconds, prepare to be holding L1 for 2+ hours. If you have an alternate means of keeping L1 pressed, do it as you don't want (or need) a numb finger or thumb.

Here is how I got it:
Went to Serendipity the moment it became available; bought 10.000 coins, went to the Slot Machines (They were working "on a hot summer's day"). Kept L1 pressed for approximately 45 minutes or 808 Turns with four 777 combinations and got the Lucky Coin. When I got the fragment I was at around 12.600 coins (having started with 10.000).

Having gotten the collector's edition book, I'm pretty sure I got the definitive answer.

You can come back anytime you want and do it in any number of sessions. That means you can save, turn off your ps3, sleep, wake up and continue, exit to historia crux and complete the game, come back and continue etc.

Only thing required is to win 7777 coins at the slot machine, doesn't matter how much you start with, you need to win 7777 total as a prize. Chocobo races don't count, only the slot machine.

And also, auto play with holding the L1 has a lower chance of success than playing normally. The book states it as "it plays to lose". So definitely lower odds.

Basically the recommended strategy for doing it as painless as possible is getting ~16000 coins, getting the highest odds on the machine (it's when the woman in front of it says "It's as hot as a summer's day.") And then autoplaying. Odds say you will get it, not guaranteed ofc.

I don't know about that begginer's luck thing seems like bunk to me.

Why?

I closed the gate went into the casino with 20,000 odd chips and currently at 215 turns 3794 total turns and im down to 6k chips and I _still_ don't have that f'ing fragment.

Was the machine on hot summer's day?

It worked for me, I closed the gate, entered the casino, machine is on hot summer's day and went to play the machine at 175 turns 7 Jackpots on super victory mode I got the Fragment. I started with 7,000 coins, left the machine at 202 total turns with 20,000+ coins.

Yep hot summer's day as well... just the worst luck in the world right here. I am having a lot of hate for Squenix for this stupid fragment I am.

Make sure you reset the gate so you start from the beginning as if you never entered Serendipity.

I got the Lucky Coin by using L1 but you can also randomize by pressing the buttons to throw off the automation. Make sure you have over 10,000 coins so you have a buffer. Just hold down L1 and eventually you'll start getting some wins.

It will seem like you won't be winning for a while, and then you'll luck out and get the fragment. Just make sure you close the gate and don't leave the machine. Use "A hot Summer's Day" or at the very least "The machines on fire!"
