Passive ability infusion: hidden ranks, monsters who possess them, etc.

#1laurenciumPosted 2/5/2012 5:28:12 PM
Summary: The monster infusion system in FFXIII-2 allows every tamed monster to possess a maximum of ten passive abilities. When this limit is reached, new passive abilities infused will either overwrite existing ones or be discarded. This process is decided by a hidden hierarchy for passive abilities within the game. Abilities ranked high will be prioritized at the expense of lower-ranked abilities.

For players who wish to create their own ultimate monsters, knowing the ranks associated with each ability can be tremendously helpful. If used right, this can prevent precious abilities being overwritten or undesirable abilities getting yellow-locked in place.

Presented below is a complete list of all inheritable passive abilities and their corresponding ranks. This information is mostly obtained by translating an excellent Japanese website (http://kamikouryaku.com/ff13-2). Since I only have a very limited knowledge of Japanese, much will be appreciated if any mistakes and errors found can be pointed out and discussed.

Note: This topic is a reboot of an older one (http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/619315-final-fantasy-xiii-2/61849060, which I intend to delete soon).

Monsters who possess these abilities

Every now and then I will try to provide information about monsters who possess these abilities (also available on the Japanese website). Unfortunately since this is a much tougher translating effort, I currently do not have the complete list. I will try to list out any requested abilities first. For those of you who own the Piggyback guide, it also has a very good list of recommended abilities with names of monsters who learn them.

I imagine this might be a good place to discuss where to find these monsters as well!

Some interesting monsters

Interestingly, many monsters simultaneously possess multiple top-tier passive abilities. Below is a list of these monsters of special note. Not only do they make good infusion sources, most of them are actually among the best monsters you can find for their roles. Here I will also list out non-inheritable abilities at the end.

Format:
Monster: Inheritable passive abilities (level at which the ability is learned); Non-inheritable passive abilities (level at which the ability is learned).
