Who gets more? Lighting.
Who deserves more? Tidus.

Honestly, with a gun to my head, I wouldn't see 1/10 of the problems haters have with Lightning. With Tidus, let me borrow the gun and I'll do the job for you.

Tidus never bothered me. Yeah, he has his moments where he gets on the nerves, but better that than having a protagonist who tries too hard making people believe he/she is cool (without having any reason for me to care about her, like Lightning).

And what reason is there to care about Tidus? I have more sympathy for Lightning.
Characters like Balthier are the ones who try too hard because IMO, they just seem fake. Like Auron. I mean, blade, coat, glasses, scar, voice, sake, undead. Yes, he is cool and bad*** but clearly overcompensating.

ff13 Lightning - I thought she was a very relate-able character. If i was in her shoes, Id probably do the same things she did in ff13

ff13-2 Lightning - She's cool with the new armor and all but I was very much disappointed with her character development. As i have stated numerous times before, In ff13-2 she became more like a martyr. "oh i will sacrifice myself or my sister for the world", Snowish sort of crap. What about fighting to the death. I missed her ff13 persona. Back then she was more like "If I'm gonna die, I'll drag you to hell with me" sort of attitude but now shes more like a pansy character too busy fixing the screw ups of Etro.

ffx Tidus - He *****ed and moan in the beginning but you see him change and have the resolve to defy fate. He wasn't exactly a grown man so the way he behaved was acceptable and the fact that he changed was all that mattered.

ff12 Vaan - I really hate this fly in the wall character. I wished it was Rassler who had lived and Vann who died in the beginning. That would make me very happy.

Agree.
Disagree. I think her character development was justified because from the beginning she knew that everyone would most likely die, but still asked for everyone's help and tried to make things right. But I would like to have seen more "CAIUS BALLAD!!" in the game.
Agree, but even so, I find him grating most of the time.
In XII they could've taken out Vann and Penelo and develop Fran more. She is the reason XII is worth playing.

I don't know about anyone else, but I share a lot in common with Tidus as far as family issues are concerned. Lightning not so much, given I never had any siblings near me.

Her being concerned for Serah was never something I felt sorry for. Auron has a lot more going for him than his coolness. He kinda gets a reverse character development at the end of the game. One first gets the impression that he's a stoic and generic father-figure badass samurai until the flashbacks with him, Jecht and Braska reveal that he was just like Tidus: scared and wants to stop Braska's pilgrimage.

I agree, especially with the Auron part. Did you ever read episode 0? I think you would have felt more of a connection with Lightning. Either way I don't think neither character should be hated and then the hatred still feels a little overblown.

Balthier doesn't look like he's trying he just happens to be naturally appealing to most. Now Auron I'll agree on.

Why do people keep bringing Vaan up just to bash him? This is a question about Claire Farron and Tidus....... [insert Jechts last name]

That might be one of the reasons. Outside of playing FFXIII and FFXIII-2, I didn't read any of the other stuff. Sometimes I'm not even bothered to read the datalog lol.

I'll give it a shot. Maybe a miracle happens and I'll find Lightning at least somewhat relatable. It doesn't hurt to look.
