I have no idea why the yanks love FF4 so much, America is weird.

I agree.

FFIV is hardly anything special by today's standards.
I like it, but both V and VI are superior. (another European here).

Yeah, I too found FF IV pretty mediocre.

I like FFIV, but I'm not one of those people who says, oh it was good at the TIME. FF4 is great, but only about is great as FF13 to me (which is still good).

America got FFIV when it was released, in fact as it was the first FF there sicne Ff1 it was hugely hyped due to the improvements.

In the rest of the world we either didn't get FF4 till much later, by which point we weren't affected by hype and could see it wasn't that great, or in the case of Japan, they got III, which is probably a little worse but at least comparable.

the japanese arent obsessed with ffiv then? but SE is makign all these remakes, they cant just be for the american audience?
or was your comment tongue in cheek? i mean you said that you don't understand why the americans love them but then you kinda just answered your own question just now

I'm pretty sure FFIV is the most popular pre-7 FF in Japan.

I enjoy IV (and the subsequent remakes/ports, DS and PSP in particular), but it's not a favorite.
