Plot & Difficulty?

The story is much worse, and it actually relies on the datalog even MORE.

There is no difficulty, the game is incredibly easy. I maxed out the Crystarium 40 hours in.

Hmm...so I guess my next question would be: is it even worth it? I'm kind of tight on money, and it sounds like I could put it to better use than buying this, especially since I'm not crazy about XIII. I am curious about the plot, but now I'm kind of leaning towards just reading a plot summary rather than actually playing. Any thoughts from the board?

It's not a good game.

Watch the cutscenes on youtube.

It doesn't rely on the datalog even more than XIII. XIII-2's story without fragments is clearer than XIII's without the datalog. But that's not to say it's a better story, because it most definitely isn't.

Difficult? Da heck?
The hard thing on XIII is only getting gils.
And XIII-2 is just freakin' easy comparable to XIII, except solving the clock puzzle, but there's a guide.

What you need is fast reaction, the right paradigm, and decent Equpment. They even give you an easy CP earning way that doesn't involves fighting.

And lastly, you got GAMEFAQS, yea, the FAQs section isn't just for show, ya know? and i'm sure people here in the Board are happy to help, or at least, some of them.

XIII is challenging for us normal folk

XIII-2 by comparison, you don't really even have to stagger a decent amount of regular enemies, but there's a nasty difficulty spike at the very end. still manageable though.

everything they "fixed" in this game i feel like was actually made worse. "nonlinearity" = a bunch of small areas with annoying loads in between, plus a big eff-you mandatory sidequest toward the end. extra puzzles = BS. only positive is party leader switch but because your third member is a Pokemon, errr monster and you lose if they're the only one left, it's not as big a deal as you'd think.

on the flip side the game is very short, like 20-25 hours if you're not some weirdo who feels the need to grind (i kid kid...sorta,) so if you could borrow/rent (?) a copy you'll basically know if you'll like it very quick.

Welp, guess I'm skipping this one then. Thanks for the input, everyone has been very helpful.

You really shouldn't have went here for info on whether to get it or not. I like to act on instinct, buy the game and make my own conclusions instead of going to a nest of trolls for a second opinion.

Yeah, just go on YouTube, and watch the cutscenes. There is going to be another game probably, so be sure catch up, if the sequel is better.

Don't get me wrong, I like FF13, but this game is Meh. They took feedback but in the wrong way, but still watch the cutscenes incase your are interested in the coming.
