what does dolphins and clamshells have to do with Nintendo? besides Dolphin being a codename for the Wii before it was announced?

The original GBA was not a clamshell. Heck iirc the Micro was also not a clamshell? I'm not a fanboy by any means. I got a 3DS at launch and I'm getting a Vita at launch.
