Probably because smaller titles like that are cheaper to develop - if you're putting out a 'full price' retail product, it's much riskier to veer away from conventional, proven formulas and genres. The market is such that whole studios can close on one failed project, and, as such, many tend to shoot for guaranteed hits and trends rather than risk something that might not sell.
There's also the additional packaging, licencing for the physical media and advertising/marketing to consider.
The smaller projects can afford to be a bit more experimental, thankfully.
