I guess it's fine when Apple sues Samsung for having curves on their phones and gets awarded 1 billion. But Sony sues the guy most people identify as "the Playstation guy" for doing A Wii commercial and people cry foul? Awesome.

Are you ill?
I challenge you to find even one person in this topic—hell, on this entire internet—who said that both a) it was fine for Apple to sue Samsung and b) it is not fine for Sony to sue their own mascot.

Next Sony is going to sue the dev team of Sony Smash Bros. for having a Wii in their office.

Nice job on taking that out of context.

That was in context.
And even if you were being sarcastic, your sarcasm was being directed at literally no one. You aren't explaining yourself to two different people because the idiots on GameFAQs need to be spoonfed. Your post was bad.

hes a traitor. he deserves it.

Your misplaced brand loyalty towards a company who is suing a man doing his job, for having his own likeness, is both sad and disturbing.

You guys do realize that he in all likelihood had a contract prohibiting the very thing he did in the commercial, advertising(if even in the slightest of ways) the competition. It doesn't matter if he didn't go "Buy Nintendo, Sony sucks", it doesn't matter if it was a tire commercial. He's pretty much the poster child(man-child?) for Sony as far as gaming is concerned, and when you have that much sway, they are gonna wanna do everything they can to keep that idea going. It's not like he couldn't have seen this coming; he had to, like every other actor, read the script, audition for the part, etc. And I doubt Sony would hide the fact that they wouldn't want him (directly or indirectly) advertising their competition. This isn't a case of "Americans getting all sue happy" or "Sony being petty and desperate for cash", its simply suing for breach of contract. That is, assuming that's what they are suing him for, and not something else.

It's sorta similar to American Idol contestants. The contestants, even if they lose, have something like 3 months to 5 years(depending on if they win/how far they get) before they are allowed to freely negotiate any semblance of a record deal with a company outside of the one that runs the show. Even casual conversation(I don't know how often you'd make small talk with record heads without contract deals coming up but meh) could be construed as breach of contract and the company would be within their rights to sue the pants off the person.

Now, is the lawsuit "needed"? No, not really. It's not like the commercial caused a surge in Wii sales or anything. Is it kinda stupid? Maybe, but no more stupid than Jerry Lambert putting himself in that sort of situation.

this has nothing to do with his contract with Sony... Sony thinks they own his face :P

A post like that, on GameFAQs?

It's one of the least absurd posts I've ever seen, so I'm inclined to think he was serious.

Maybe if Sony wouldn't have fired half of their marketing staff, they would have noticed what a bad PR stunt it would be to sue their VP of Playstation.
