Opinion: Star Ocean has always been a pretty mediocre series. All games aren't bad and I'd likely buy it but "need" is a strong word.

As long as it's not as bad as "The Last Hope" (one of the WORST RPGs I've ever played) sure, why not?

I have First Departure for my PSP. I like it but I can't get pass my 1000s slow load times >_<

That is also why I've only completed 2/3 of Birth By Sleep despite owing it for like 2 years now...

The Last hope was great, Till the End of Time was the only bad Star Ocean game IMO. I hated Till the End of Time but really liked The Last Hope, especially the PS3 international version.
