You know it is getting bad when people have to argue about the PS3 and Wii instead of the Vita.

http://www.metacritic.com/game/playstation-vita
http://www.metacritic.com/game/3ds

What exactly was your point with these?

3DS
90+: 4 games
85+: 9 games
80+: 22 games
75+: 40 games

Vita
90+: 1 game
85+: 6 games
80+: 15 games
75+: 33 games

The Vita is quickly catching up the 3DS despite being out for less than a year.

*sigh*

Let me run some numbers for you:

The 3DS was released on February 26, 2011. As of this writing, this was 658 days ago (in Japan). Taking the data above, we can calculate that, on average:
0.00608 90+ games are released every day,
0.01368 85+ games are released every day,
0.03343 80+ games are released every day,
0.06079 75+ games are released every day.

The PlayStation Vita was released on December 17, 2011. As of this writing, that was 364 days ago (in Japan). You are correct - this is less than a year...2 days less, in fact. We can also calculate the averages for these:

0.00275 90+ games are released every day,
0.01648 85+ games are released every day,
0.04121 80+ games are released every day,
0.09066 75+ games are released every day.

I will give credit to the Vita where credit is due: in the 85+, 80+, and 75+ categories, games do come out slightly faster on the Vita than on the 3DS. Likewise, with the numbers above, we can estimate exactly when the Vita will pass the 3DS in terms of these games.

On August 13th, 2013, 606 days after the Vita was first released, the Vita will receive its 55th game with a Metascore of 75 or above. At this point in time, the 3DS will have only 22. This is the first major milestone the Vita passes, and the only one it passes outside of 2015.

On June 24th, 2015, 1286 days after the Vita was first released, the Vita will receive its 53rd game with a Metascore of 80 or above. At this point in time, the 3DS will have only 22.

On December 11th, 2015, 1456 days after the Vita was first released, the Vita will receive its 24th game with a Metascore of 85 or above. At this point in time, the 3DS will have only 23.

The Vita never surpasses the 3DS in terms of 90+ games. The closest it ever gets is today, when it is 3 behind. By the time the Vita passes it in 85+ games, the 3DS will have 10 90+ games while the Vita has only 4.

At this point, this isn't sounding very impressive. The Vita isn't "quickly catching up" to the 3DS...unless you consider taking nearly 3 years "quickly" (and you're willing to ignore the fact that the 3DS has 2.5x the number of 90+ games as the Vita).

Some other interesting tidbits:
-If sales remain steady for both systems, the 3DS will have sold 23,402,601 total units in Japan by the time the Vita passes it in the number of 85+ games, making it the 2nd-best-selling game system ever (in Japan), behind the original DS (which surpasses it by about 10 million units). The Vita, meanwhile, will have sold 4,298,484 total units, a little under half of what the 3DS has sold today.
-By the time this transition happens, assuming the rate of remodels for the current systems are the same as for their predecessors, both systems should be on their 3rd model.
-The DS should also have passed the PS2 in sales by this point, if it hasn't already (info is...sketchy).

It's weird that whether Sony sells more or Nintendo sells more in Japan (a country most of you will never even go to) you all somehow feel a victory... Sorry, sad is probably a better word than weird. Then again people into sports feel like they accomplish something when a sports team they like wins. Just seems like nobody ever has any achievements of their own.

Anyone beat a video game recently?

Yes; I beat Sonic Generations (PC/PS3/360 version) today. I also set a new personal best on a single quarter play of Ms. Pac Man yesterday while waiting for The Hobbit to open.

Get a good grade in school?

Well...I placed in the 99th percentile on my ACT...does that count?

It's bizarre how such insignificant garbage like sales of a video game make people feel entitled to some kind of victory parade.

I own all the systems and about a hundred games for each. Does that mean that I win everything?

That would depend upon the stock you have in the companies, what bets you've placed, etc.

I think he's referring to the rate the 3DS is currently going. The entirety of 2012 has 7 titles rated 80% and up. Vita has 17.

If you want to chalk it up to that being Vita's launch year, then look at 3DS's launch year. It had 11 titles with an 80% and up ranking.

Also, tell the other guy not to use metacritic. They give scores to reviews without scores on them. Gamerankings is the more accurate site.

Here's what Lume said about the amazingly gorgeous Dragon Quest VII trailer on the Total Nonstop Gaming board.

"It looks like a PSP game, but I'd play it if I had nothing else."

So Lume how are you enjoying the latest Vita game? Sour Grapes HD.

It does look like a PSP game - no nee to get bitter about it. I've stopped playing PSP games a while back but if you enjoy inferior products, more power to you.

Guess what? Nobody only plays games that scores 90+ (especially when one of those games is 14 year old game).

Hopefully SE fix everything in the playstation version for this remake. That way, it will help cement the 3DS's status as the market leader.

No need to slow down and wait for the Vita. Just keep going, 3DS.

You were just using that to your advantage now you're saying it doesn't matter.

Oh Lume, never change :)

So aesthetics/graphics take priority over story and game play to you? If you think DQVII looks like a PSP game you need to watch the trailer again.
