if the vita had a umd slot

No... The UMD thing never really took off, and I'm not sure what Sony was thinking. While I admit to buying a few movies, it wasn't very smart to pay the exact same price (if not more) for less extra features. In the end it suffered the same fate as their mini discs.

I don't see how they could have improved the design, while keeping the UMD... Which is probably why they ditched it.

...Why do people act like Vita shouldn't play UMD's, when THAT's the format Sony used for games. it's UMD or nothing, since a lot of games aren't on PSN.

You obviously don't know what logic is.

Nintendo's non-portable consoles haven't used carts since the N64.

Sony's last-GEN console and the Vita's predecessor used UMD's...asking for last gen support and support for a system from 3 gens ago is incomparable and frankly idiotic.

But you know that already, idiotic is your shtick.

Missing the point, as usual LOL. Like, I'm literally lol'ing right now. Anyways, I'll bite. People always say "LOL I'm so glad Vita isn't fully backwards compatible cus I don't like the UMD format!" when this doesn't make any sense. If you don't like UMD's, or the UMD only games enough to use them, then don't, simply.

Also, are you implying that optical media is better than flash media? The only argument I really see is the costs.

The drive is more of a problem then the discs... and vita having a UMD drive means it has the drive, which increases price and weight and pretty much just screws everything up. Nobody is opposed to a UMD add-on.
