the music in the game i heard on gameplay videos on youtube were very annoying and some animal creature type thing was doing commentary during a battle which seemed kinda goofy. I guess i prefer rpg's with a more serious/dark theme and story. Is the game always like this or does it get more of a "mature" feel to it for lack of a better word.

It doesn't really get any darker. If anything, it's fanservicey.

Try Persona 3 Portable (PSP) instead if you're just looking for dark.

Im personally just not a fan of a kid/teen protagonist. Its a major turn off in games for me.

It's Japanese scooby doo. You should look elsewhere for dark.

I respectfully disagree. There are a lot of dark and atmospheric jrpg's. The core SMT comes to mind, as does Nocturne. Vandal Hearts, Vagrant Story, Suikoden and others have political and dark plots in them.

if you call those dark, then Persona 4 is dark, too.
