People seem to miss the point that the vita is a system aimed at older teens and adults. As a result of course sales are not going to be as good as a system aimed at all ages. This is why hollywood prefers to make PG movies and not R/NC-17 movies. There is a larger audience and a potential to make more money.
Yes, price is a factor but not so much since any adult that wants the system should be able to afford it. I have no doubt that the vita will survive at least as long as the psp did.

Also, it's interesting that Sony expected it to flop while their dedicated are still having trouble wrapping their minds around it.
