The future of gaming, the fall of Nintendo, and Sony's rise to the top

ass we all should know, digital gaming has taken the industry by storm in the form of tablets and cell phones. physical game sales have dropped dramatically over the years, which is not good at all to many.

but sony has come up with a brilliant plan to combat this. with an extensive psn store and the ability to buy any vita game digitially, they are taking on this bold new market head-on, and will do nothing to stop.

nintendo on the other hand, barely knows how to handle online and has a laughably empty estore. they are breaking the ice with digital retail releases, but still rely on physical media more than anything else. they are struggling to sell the 3ds anywhere outside of japan and the wii u is tanking on a global scale. the digital download age is here, and nintendo is still living in the 90s. this company has not long of a life left.

I agree. We should all know that.

IIRC the 3DS is outselling the Vita 2:1 in America. I'm pretty sure at least 75% of those sales are made up of people under the age of 13. This market is moving more and more to the ipod unfortunately.

TC's argument would be valid if Nintendo's eshop didn't include retail games. Pretty much any big retail game you can buy in physical copy is also available for download.

Eshop is pretty robust actually. Most games are available in downloadable form.

I have to admit. Sony is doing a brilliant job on trolling Game Stop.

Don't underestimate the power of physical games. When people walk by the electronics department at Wal-Mart and see a bunch of 3DS games on the shelf and very few Vita games, it gives them the perception that there is more to play on the 3DS even if this isn't the case.

Also, going purely digital will hurt retailers, and stores are less likely to promote systems that don't move much physical product.
