Konami "seriously considered" releasing Castlevania: Lords of Shadow - Mirror of Fate on PS Vita, but decided to keep the side-scrolling adventure a 3DS exclusive.
Well, it's all down to the Vita's pesky two-dimensional screen.

"The Vita could have run the game no problem, and we did seriously consider it as a platform" the game's producer, Dave Cox, told Pocket Gamer.
"But when we saw the game on 3DS and how it looked with the 3D, it made us realise we could never replicate that on another system."

Cox reckons that you'll want to keep the 3D slider switched on during Mirror of Fate.
"We have carefully considered every angle, every shot, every vista to totally show off the 3D effect," Cox said.

"I'm not knocking the Vita," Cox stated, "but if we were to develop a game on that console, we would really focus on the Vita's core strengths. The Vita game would be very different from a version for 3DS."
Previously, Capcom said it would not port Resident Evil: Revelations to Vita because the two handheld consoles are "extremely different beasts".

That's stupid. Maybe if the game needed 3D as a core gameplay concept it would make sense, but you can switch off 3D and still play just fine. 3D is not essential. --- PSN/GT/Steam: Ravendust Reviews are a metric of quality. Sales are a metric of popularity.
Lousy excuse. I can't claim to have actual statistics but most of the people I know who have a 3DS already leave it off most of the time. They just ocassionally turn it on to see what it looks like. I can agree with this, the 3D requires a very steady and specific viewing angle. And unless It's during a cutscene I tend not to even notice it while I'm focusing on the game itself.
High res graphics are better than 3D. Truth is they would have to rework every model and texture before putting it on vita. Vita is low res itself. My phone has 720p and my Tablet. The Vita would look awful on the tablet and maybe ok on the phone. Vita is tanking so hard, even a half-assed port wouldn't make us money.
Pretty much. Horrible hardware sales and even worse software sales will usually cause third parties to not support a console, though Konami, like Capcom, is trying to be polite about it (and just like Capcom, their official explanation is hardly convincing).
That said, 3D is pretty sweet, I always play my 3DS games with the 3D on max and have no notable issues with ghosting or anything of the sort.
