Replacing my Vita question

#1mindchapPosted 1/31/2013 6:49:46 AM
I asked this on the PSVita boards and got two different answers, so since I usually have better luck on GameFAQS boards I'll ask here. My vita got splashed with a few drops of water unfortunately while it was turned on. The water hit right on the PS button and would not turn off. It then proceeded to have , what can only be described as, a meltdown. It went off after a few minutes then cut itself back on then off over and over for over an hour during which the buttons would not respond at all. Now it does not work at all. My question is, since the memory card did not get wet and the system itself will not be used again, can I buy a new vita and still have all of my games and save data? The system had not been backed up in a few months, I know backups can be restored but will I lose everything since the last backup? The main reason I ask is because I have slow internet and quite a few games that would take days to download again and I hate to lose months of save data.

And yes I tried the rice thing but since the power kept cutting off and on I'm pretty sure it got enough in it to short things out.

You can just pop the memory card into your new Vita and start playing. I did the same (only I changed Vitas because I wanted a different colour) and the only issue I had was that the games didn't show up in the trophy app at first. It solved itself eventually though.

One thing you should know is that Sony only allows digital games to be played on two handhelds per account. If you have a PSP or another Vita tied to your account then you won't be able to play the games. If you can't turn on the Vita to deactivate it then I'd advice you to contact Sony so they can deactivate your broken Vita for you.

I still have an old PSP activated on the account but it doesn't get used anymore, so if I deactivate it first then the new Vita should work right?

That should work. I'd advice you to try to deactivate the dead Vita anyway because you don't know what happens in the future. It's the best time to do it now really.

In case anyone else comes across this problem I have since bought the new Vita and had no problems. Since I could not deactivate the old one I just went online and chose to deactivate all devices, then put the old memory card into the new Vita, started it up and logged into my PSN account. Other than the icons being rearranged and the wallpapers being the defaults everything is perfectly normal. All games and saves work fine. And thanks for the advice.
