"UPDATE: After checking with XSEED, we received confirmation that Ys: Memories of Celceta, Valhalla Knights 3, and Rune Factory 4 (and of course Killer is Dead) will all be available as physical releases and should be up for pre-orders by this weekend on Amazon and Gamestop." Source: http://www.rpgamer.com/news/Q1-2013/013113a.html I know people were wondering so I thought I might as well make a topic on it. Good news for importers and people who dig physical copies. I dig just that so it makes me very happy. Hope they make a shiny LE for Ys like they have with the older games in the series. --- JRPG fans, support our struggle: http://chn.ge/SsowWy Join our cause: https://www.facebook.com/OperationDemonBane

How are Ys: Memories of Celceta and Valhalla Knights 3? I've never played those series.

Do yourself a favor and download one of the Ys PSP games - either Ys Seven or Ys: Oath in Felghana. It's basically an action-RPG series. Most of the games have you playing as a lone hero and kind of resemble the Legend of Zelda series (except with one linear narrative and changing bad guys/settings throughout the world instead of all the Zelda alt-Links and alt-Zeldas in Hyrule), but Ys Seven actually has a team system where you can switch between three characters on the fly, and Ys Seven is the one that most resembles Memories of Celceta. Be forewarned that Ys Seven is QUITE long. You'll be able to play through Oath in Felghana much faster if you want a taste of the franchise, but it definitely plays differently. Really rockin' soundtracks, too. --- backlogger.tumblr.com - The Backlogger, where I wade through an ever-expanding backlog of video games

smp61687 posted... How are Ys: Memories of Celceta and Valhalla Knights 3? I've never played those series. Ys Celceta is the latest title in the long running (since the 80s!) action-RPG series Ys, developed by Nihon Falcom. This one, in particular, is a remake of Ys IV, the first time Falcom develops the game by themselves, actually, lol. Originally, in the early 90s, when Ys IV first came out, they just sold the license and two different companies (Hudson and Tonkinhouse) had a shot at making it. Result was we ended up with two different Ys IV, none of which Falcom ever really decided as being canon, haha. Flash forward to the present, they're finally taking their jab at the overall story in Ys IV, but if I know Falcom, and from what others have said, it's only loosely based on the originals. The game has also nothing to do gameplay-wise with those other two titles, so in a way it's just a new title that will also fill a place in the official timeline of the series as a remake. If you played Ys Seven you'll probably be right at home, seeing as it will keep the system from that game. You can hang-around with three characters in your party and switch between them with the simple press of a button. The transition is really smooth, and changing is advised to face different kinds of enemies. The bow-type weapons are effective against flying enemies, some have more defensive capabilities, so you change to the brawler kind of characters, and then the fleshies are more vulnerable to the main character's style. The dungeons and field exploration are all very hack and slash-y and just fun to play, seeing as you'll be doing a lot of cool stuff and pressing buttons. However, the star of the show for the Ys series are the boss battles: they're quite challenging in harder difficulties and overall a real blast to beat. Falcom, being the masters they are, have also long since realized that difficulty must not come with cheapness, so their games all have really functional system design choices, such as instantly retrying a boss if you lose, with no load time whatsoever. Ninja Gaiden, for instance, could definitely take some tips from them here, heh. The combat and gameplay are the main part of the game, because the stories are usually very cliche. I can't speak about Celceta's, of course, but so far the series has some very 'generic' fantasy thing going on. Still, I'd say it ends up being more enjoyable than most other titles like this because the execution is really great. Falcom knows how to play out their narratives, and one point they excel at is using their fantastic music to help set the atmosphere in scenes. If you've never played a Falcom game before and like power rock, you'll be in for a treat, seeing as they really, really have some outstanding compositions. For instance, this is one of the field map themes in Celceta: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OrMTmdB0b-8 Aaaand... yeah, lol. Re-reading my post, it sounds like one huge fanboy going at it, doesn't it? And I guess it's true. I basically bought the system for this game alone, so finally having it coming our way made me really happy. I loved the Ys series for the longest time, and I think the games have just been getting better and better. The latest one, Seven, took the spot as my favourite title in the series from a previous one, and seeing as Celceta keeps the same gameplay aspects, I'm dying to get it.
