Is the screen big enough for watching movies / TV shows?

The topic kind of says it all.

I know that you *can* watch video files up to 1080p on the Vita, however I'm just wondering if the experience when doing so is actually any good? Is the screen big enough that it's something you'd want to do while travelling, or is it just a little too small to fill immerse yourself into?

I know it's going to come down to personal opinion, but I'd love to get some feedback.

Its usable in a pinch, but the quality of modern phone and tablet screens, the price of storing content on the Vita, and the headache of pushing content to it mean that it probably wont be your go to device for watching stuff.

But its more than large enough.

I have 6 movies and several episodes of the x files on my vita and they look and sound great. It will not playback HD movies, just standard dvd resolution but because of the smaller screen the movies look really good. The ability to buy and put movies and tv shows on the PSN and transfer them to the vita is one of the great features on the vita that the 3DS simply cannot do.

qHD is the max resolution it can output at, not DVD only.

Only standard res movies from the PSN will transfer to the vita. If you try to transfer HD video the system won't let you.

Oh ok, didn't realize you were talking about PSN ones.

As a guy who went nuts when the first phones could play video, I'm mighty satisfied with the vita screen. There's plenty worse, like trying to watch on an ipod nano, or older psp.

I have a few HD movies on my Vita that I converted from 720p to 960x544p. They all look crisp and colorful on the Vita.
I wouldn't recommend using this as something to replace an in-dash movie player in a vehicle or something, but the screens serves just fine for individual viewing.
I recommend using some good headphones though if you want to feel "immersed" in any movies/games.

I watched a couple of sopranos episode via remote play and it worked good. I did this because I didn't want to convert a whole season to the proper format so i just put them on a usb flash drive and plugged it into my ps3.
