Notice the date in your link. Now pay attention here cause it's really important. Sony doesn't have to pay off the R&D costs of the vita right away. They are going to obviously but the point is the vita is not being sold at a loss and the only amount it needs to make before it makes pure profit is to pay off the R&D costs which nobody knows how much that is and for all any one knows it's already paid off.

Three years was when they were expecting to sell 16 million. At this rate, they won't even reach half their re-re-revised expectations. It is likely much longer than 3 years and impossible to have been already paid off.

Also no businesses don't say well we lost x amount on ps3 but we made y amount on psp/ps2 so x amount is only really z amount. They don't do that. PS3 profits and losses will be completely separate from psp profit/losses and ps2 profit/losses.

That is precisely what they do. The net loss for the Playstation Division is what matters. Whatever the PS3 lost, the PS2 and PSP mitigated that and that's how you get the net loss. Without the profits from the PS2/PSP, the loss would have been much larger.

True or not, that makes sense to say fiscally. You wont gain much respect (or many investors) talking about how you plan to jump ahead of Microsoft, knowing they have the ability to throw more money at a project and that their next console will be partially subsidized by XBL.

Basically, Sony will avoid trying to get "PS3'd" again.

Sony: Vita's not doing well you say? Don't worry!
On Feb. 20th, apparently Sony's next gen console will be revealed.

Actually, that makes it even more worrisome. As if another system would do the Vita any good. If at all, it diverts even more attention away from the Vita. Sony is in a horrible state right now and lately it has been pretty rough for new system launches, so this seems like an awful moment to succeed their only system that's doing well right now.

Sock. U are just spewing stupid out your mouth... the ps3 did great better than the Xbox 360 in lifetime sales at this point..... sonys downfall financially had nothing to do with gaming until the vita...

It's hilarious how you tell him that he is being stupid, yet you let out this idiotic drivel. Let's have a look at this:

http://www.vg247.com/2009/10/30/sony-ps-division-has-lost-4-7-billion-since-launching-ps3/

* FY 2007: -$1,970,923,859
* FY 2008: -$1,079,994,103
* FY 2009: -$577,207,240
* FY 10Q1: -$413,541,667
* FY 10Q2: -$653,333,333

The PS3 destroyed BILLIONS of dollars before the Vita was even announced.

why do you think that because its selling above its base manufactoring cost means pulling profit?

Because he has no idea whatsoever, of course. He also thinks that "turning black" means "getting rid of all debt". Here's a neat display of kingofall214's laughable economy knowledge:

They also said they would return to profitability when they posted their biggest loss in the history of the company instead. Also, they said that they will sell 12m Vitas and PSPs combined this fiscal year and we al lknow how that turned out.

lol the ps3 was a major loss for them
it only recently started making a profit for them.
then the vita destroyed that profit.
sony can't take another massive loss

Except for making bank off their U.S HQ. I think Sony is under massive reconstruction right now in almost every way and I think the Feb. 20th event is part of that.

Selling assets is never a sign of strength. If they are selling their headquarters and then paying rent to stay in the place they used to own, well, I think they have a money problem.

I wonder how long the PSP will continue to get supported. The PS2 sold a third of its life times sales after the PS3 was already out, So it will be interesting how long they will throw bones to the people picking up PSPs instead of (or at least as well as) Vitas.

Microsoft profited way more than Sony did. 360 games outsold the PS3 in NA when it came to console sales, which is what mattered the M$ most. Not only that, but the 360 destroyed the PS3 in software sales & accessories...plus Xbox Live revenue. Microsoft also did not release the 360 at a huge loss like Sony did with the PS3

The PS3 was not a success at all. The PS3 is gaining more momentum now than ever, which is why I am shocked that Sony doesn't release their console in '14 instead. However, Sony is already trying to ban the ability of playing used games on their consoles......that is going to be killer.

Because selling your own HQ is something a HEALTHY company does.
