I think what he meant by fact is that it is a fact that Sony lowered there projections. I guess the plural shouldn't of been there tough.

This, and the factual numbers of PSP and PS Vita sold, the fact that Sony's current 7 million forecast is lower than their previous 10 million forecast, the fact that this is not the first time they have lowered the forecast (they went from 16 million initially, to 12 million, to 10 million and now 7 million), the fact that these all came from Sony themselves.

So they overestimated i dont see the problem? they still are guessing to sell more than they did the previous yr while everything else aside from smartphones on that list has dropped since the the previous yr. I fail to see how this is so bad?

If you look at the chart you will see on the bottom fiscal year 11 didn't count vita sales. So fiscal year 11 sold 6.8 million psps alone. Fiscal year 12 sold 7 million psps and vitas combined. that is not good.

Cuz the vita wasnt released in FY11 and in FY11 they sold 6.8mil psps and in FY they predict selling at least 7mil combined which makes sense because the psp is old so they combine it just like they did the ps2/ps3. Cuz we should all remember how poorly that sold when it first came out. I still fail to see the negative that the vita/psp sales are one of the only 2 categories that increased from last yr.

They overestimated by a huge margin, which screwed up their plan of turning profit from the vita within 3 years in a major way.

And this fiscal year accounts for full 12 months sale of Vita and the PSP unlike last fiscal year.

Who cares? An increase is an increase. They screwed up estimating so high but it didnt sell that bad in the end. Why would they believe the psp that sold only 6.8 million units in fy11 would sell 6million the year the vita was released? And on top of that think a new console with hardly any good launch titles would sell 10million.

Just cause they dream big doesnt make it a failure. Still one of only markets that increased from last yr so im sure the vita market isnt their biggest concern right now.

"Sony mentioned that they now expect to sell 7 million PSP and PlayStation Vita devices combined by March 31st, 2013."

Nope, Sony didn't say anything about lowering it to 7 million... oh wait they did! Anyways, that's horrible that they cannot move enough Vitas with PSP involved to even cover 7 million! I think they should just cut their loses and bluedmon should stop reassuring himself.

thats not sony saying it. thats somebody saying that sony said it. i can say Sony mentioned that they expect to sell 50 million by march 31, 2013 that doesnt mean they said it. they have their own section that is quoted

"Sonyís earnings report reads:

In the digital imaging and the game businesses, which are positioned as core areas of the electronics businesses along with the mobile businesses, the shrinking market for compact digital cameras, due to the expansion of the smartphone market, and the slow penetration of the PlayStation Vita portable entertainment platform are recognized as particularly important issues.

Sony is working to improve profitability through reinforcement of its high value added products that are differentiated by the use of highly competitive image sensors developed by Sony. In the game business, Sony is working to expand sales and operating income through the introduction of an attractive software lineup and through offering game software on mobile devices, including smartphones and tablets."

Where do you see a number there. cause that all that sony said unless there is a link to the full earnings report because its not in that article.

A guess is a guess no matter how much data is behind it or what you wanna call it. That is a fact. The only thing im reassuring myself of is what i learned in college business 101 and statistics 101. Oh and how much this board loves to talk about Vita sales in Japan.

well im off to bed. I'll check when i wake up if a useful link is posted. Until then PEACE!

Wow, you have to be the dumbest person I've ever encountered. Sony said in their fiscal report that they have lowered their fiscal year 2013 forecast number from 10 Million to 7 Million (PSP/Vita Hardware). End of story.

ROFL! It didn't increase because 6.8 Million was pretty much PSP alone. The 7 Million forecast is Vita/PSP combined for a full year. Still going from 16 Million to 7 Million is horrible, and Sony has even admitted that Vita sales are bad.

@ylvis
can you provide proof that they actually used the word bad? I know they said less than they excepted and the like but not straight bad.

Well you wouldn't use the word good to describe less than expected. By no means does "bad" or "less than expected" mean "flop" and "discontinuation". That's just people on this board who deal only in extremes.

The situation isn't good but it's not the end of the vita ether. A price drop is imminent not because the sales are low as some people on this board think but because the parts for the vita will become cheaper. I think Sony knows they will be able to drop the price this year and are just toughing it out until they can.

lmao @ this bluedmon guy making a fool of himself.

Dude, you have no idea what you're talking about, so just stop already. The Vita is doing horrible and this lowered expectation is horrible news. Stop trying to play it off like it's nothing serious and acting like you know what you're talking about.
