Is it normal to have months go by before a new game is released for new systems?

I've never really been interested in or followed newer systems in the past because a) I assume they wouldn't have many games and b) I'm consistently behind with games I have yet to play, so that I usually buy the system at the end of its life (e.g. bought a PSP soon after the vita was released, just bought a PS3 a month ago).

I've noticed there are month long gaps between releases for this system. Is that the norm for new systems or is this lagging behind a little? Or do we have flood of games to look forward to as the system goes on its natural cycle?

April 30th is the closest we know of for the next major release.

Have a look at this thread for a peek into the future.

Yeah look at 3DS and wiiU releases 3DS had nothing worthwhile for the first 6 months pretty much and wiiU has next to nothing worthwhile aside from the multiplats that you are better off getting on ps3/360 that it launched with. Vita is actually doing pretty good everyone is just being extra hard on it for no real reason other then to troll.

Generally, by now, releases should be increasing. They're not, sadly.

It's not like there aren't games being made for it.....in Japan.

There are games announced or coming as well, but yeah, they're pretty far between releases. Mostly, it's PSN games getting released for the Vita, or PS1/PSP support, which in itself is far between.

Hell, if you go to Gamestop, they don't even update their coming soon list, there's games in that already released, presumably to pad it to look more impressive *laughs*

There's more games that are out in Japan that I'd personally buy if they were translated and released in NA than there are currently out in NA. The only reason I bought mine was for the very awesome P4G.

I'm trying the Plus games as well, but currently, it's P4G getting all the use. I will probably be getting DOA5 since I have it for PS3, and I plan on getting Disgaea 3 and Virtues Last Reward (did that even come out?)

There are some other games I'd like but aren't overly "must have now!"

There are hardly any retail games, it's true, but there are quite a few digital games coming weekly. For those who cannot purchase those. I feel for ya.

Perfectly normal. As normal as not being able to differentiate between 'than' and ' then.'

There is nothing to be concerned about. Sony is thinking long-term here, so even not getting any games for a year wouldn't be unexpected.
