I think we can realistically say that the Vita will outsell the 3DS at some point.
Some day soon, everyone in the world will own a 3DS, and there will be no reason for anyone to buy them anymore. On that day, the Vita will sell better.

By that point NIntendo would release the 3DS' successor while the 3DS probably would have 100+ million sold worldwide. Hell that successor would probably kick its ass in sales within a few months to a year.
