AMD processor suggests Steamroller

How the hell does it suggest that?

Because the alternative is a single Jaguar package and that would be ridiculously slow. This isn't a specialised, made from scratch CPU, it's no longer smart or affordable to do that anymore. Like with MS and Durango, it's off the shelf but tweaked. That leaves two options, either Jaguar or Steamroller. All the valid reports so far suggests two Jaguar packages (eight cores) for both Orbis and Durango.

If it was really quad-core, it can't be the predecessors to Jaguar or Steamroller because the Jaguar predecessor (Bobcat) would be stupidly poor and the Steamroller predecessor (Piledriver) would be too inefficient for a closed box. It can't be Steamroller due to price and because it isn't ready. This rumor is more likely than not false, as no other answer to a quad-core AMD processors besides Steamroller, which isn't possible in itself, makes much sense.

Would be great if Sony did manage a way to get Steamroller but I would not place a bet on it.

If Sony released a PSVita Slim (which I doubt they will), I would be pretty livid. How about some new games instead of throwing early adopters under the bus?

THIS. they should get out some new games instead of a second vita, anyways IF there is a second vita i'll be so pissed :/

I'm not up to speed on AMD CPUs any more, are those the only two options or is there a particular feature that suggests it's one of those? I'm not trying to contradict you, just asking.

i am a little jelly if the new vita is going to have a better battery.... how can they call it a slim? the thing is already pretty small. I would hope they release a cord for that weird proprietary connection next to the cart slot.

are you missing the big picture....? I'd be fine if the new vita helps sell the system.... sony is in a giant catch 22 right now... no one is going to make good 3rd party games for vita if the system isnt selling... of course its tough to sell the system if there are no good games.

No problem in asking, right now, Jaguar and Steamroller are the only two future CPU models (each having several CPUs at different clocks and specs) that AMD will be manufacturing. There was another, but development of that model wad cancelled. As of now, unless either Sony or MS opt for the older Bulldozer-based CPUs, which aren't very efficient in terms of performance against watts / heat, then only Jaguar and Steamroller are the viable options.

Jaguar is laptop entry level territory, it's ok but nothing too impressive, which is probably why a dual package version (eight cores) is being used for the consoles. Even then, it's not that great. We're talking dual-core i3 levels of performance. But it should be enough for consoles, especially since most of the gruntwork is done by the GPU now.

Obviously there's no amount of power that guarantees 1080p60, that's just up to developers in terms of whether they think higher resolution / frame rate or higher quality assets, more enemies, larger areas, etc, will benefit the game more.

Looks like it's a Jaguar indeed
