if they keep at this pace, which it won't happen unless if they release games, then good.

The sales of the week of the price drop don't really matter. 30,000 units here or there makes virtually no difference. The key piece of information will be the difference between the Vita's usual sales before the drop (a little over 10,000 on average) and the Vita's usual sales after the drop (which we'll have to wait 3 or 4 weeks to see). If it's still the same, all the price drop did was cause an inevitable once-off boost, and may as well not have happened.

Sony better hop it doesn't go back to 10k per week. Because they've lost $50 per system for every system they sell if it's going back to the same old system numbers. They may as well kept the same price and saw the same mediocre sales because at least they are making the $50 more. I personally think it will increase but maybe 4-6k on average.

And the whole point of this price drop is to increase userbase to increase more software support to incraease even more hardware sales.

Nobody expects it to keep at this pace. It'd be impossible - a price drop provides a once-off very significant boost to sales (which is nice but not very relevant) and (hopefully) an ongoing smaller boost in regular sales levels (which is the more important part of the price drop).

they created an exclulsive memory card to the vita because the psp was so easy to get games. it costs money to do research and development for something.

How much do you think it cost to a game producer to copy his game on a dvd? Almost nothing, yet the price of games are like 40-60$. The same logic applies for memory card.

It does not take them 50$ to produce a memory cost but they need to get back the money that they invested on R&D. This is what you get for having people pirating the psp using SD card or memory stick. Game producers will be more interested in creating games the console is not easy to hack. This will be good for all vita's owners

Anyway, I dont believe vita will sell more by lowering the price of its console or memory card. Vita needs more games and better marketing to spread its notoriety.

If people aren't buying them because they're too expensive they aren't recouping much of their R&D and manufacturing costs either though. If they have enough of a profit margin to work with they should definitely lower the cost.

The product is new, just about 1 year old. There is no point to sell it at a lower price right now if the product is still good for 5-10years. They will lose money on long terms. Plus, they could always make a sale for a week or whatever and sell their memory for 40$ and people will be rushing to get one. The deal would not be as charming if it was set to 40$ permanently. Again the problem is not the price of things. Do you believe ipad will be able to sell at 500$ if they were no apps at all on appstore?

If it doesn't pick up though it will cost them even more. And yes I'm aware that software is the key, but if 3rd party devs are holding out till it gets a larger install base it falls on Sony to either pick up the slack on software or make the system more appealing to buy.

Now we know they have most of their in house devs working on PS4 games, so what does that leave really?

Wish they implemented that price drop here in Europe. 3G model is still over 249 which is over 30 000 yen. If they drop both wifi and 3g models to 199 it can compete with the 3DS and it's still more expensive than in Japan, but I would buy it at that price. I hope we get it soon.

According to the article, it's should be about 44k , that's a really good boost.

Soul Sacrifice will release this week so sales will keep up or even improve.

There are a few more games coming this month in japan (DOA5+, tales, muramasa...) so I think it will keep the pace.
