if you don't know whether you need a phone or a handheld console, you have a greater problem...

I actually own both(Vita+N4)...I certainly use Nexus more cause well it can do significantly more for me. Their are games such as Real Racing 3 that look better than any Vita game I currently own, not trying to be bias obvious, just emphasizing that there are graphically intense mobile games. Sure there are no controls but RR3 is reminiscent of EA's Shift series. Anyway I suggest saving for the 16GB Nexus 4 instead, with the 8GB you have about 5.6GB of usable space.

Well can your current phone do all that? If yes and you dont really NEED a phone than you might as well pick up a Vita. Some places are selling the 3G model and 8GB card for $200 so you will be able to pick up a couple games as well.

Well I no longer have a phone but when I did I never used it AS A PHONE, nobody talks to me lol, only used it for the above... mostly games, which the Vita is better at. But it's understandable if you thought i was a mentally unstable "adult" with a job and such. But sadly the only income I have is selling candyy, such as twix :3 at school, however the golden rule: don't get high off your own supply. ;(

Everyone needs a phone man, even if only for emergency reasons. Now if you won't be able to pay for a monghly plan and your parents won't do it for you, then you may as well get the vita.

Most every phone (that I know of) lets you place SOS (911) calls without a phone plan. Maybe without a sim.
