persona 2 on the ps1 vs the psp?

I know little to really nothing about persona games other than they get a lot of praise and they are on sale. I see that there is a persona 2 game on the ps1 classics that's ps3, psp , vita and a psp version of 2 which is also vita compatible. what is the difference if any between the two versions. If they are the same exact game I was thinking id get the ps1 version since I can play it on the go or on my tv?

P2 is made up of two different games - Innocent Sin and Eternal punishment. The PSP one is IS remade, and the PS1 is ET but not remade. You should get both if you want the full experience. You would play it IS then ET

are they different as in they are 2 parts of a single larger story or two completely different games that are not related to each other at all?

Are 1, 2ps1, 2psp, and 3 all related to each other in a over arching plot or is every game stand alone like final fantasy?

bump? its 45 bucks if I buy 1, 3 and both versions of 2 which is a lot to blow on a series I only know by internet reputation.

Persona 1 is stand alone

Persona 2 Innocent Sin PSP is a remake of the PS1 version. It's standalone with references to the first game

Persona 2 Eternal Punishment PS1 is a sequel to Innocent Sin. Kind of obvious since it has 2 in its name instead of being Persona 3

Persona 3 is standalone

Persona 4 is standalone with references to 3.

If you do spend 45 on them all, make sure you spend another $5 to make $50 total, you get $10 back in April

This, Eternal Punishment is a sequel to Innocent Sin (as FFX-2 is a sequel to FFX). Aside from that, the games do some references to the others in the series but are standalone, you aren't missing anything if you play P3 first for example.
