Okay... so I finally turned my Vita on after 4 months. I charged it all the way, then turned it on, did the software update that I probably missed from a few years ago, and then went to downloading a couple PS+ freebies.

I left for Target, came back an hour later, and the downloads stopped downloading... so whatever, I'll just do it later. So I brought it out to my living room to play while I download some stuff on my PS3, and then when I turned it on, weird stuff started happening...

Long story short, the system said I removed the memory card (when I didn't even touch it). It had to restart the system in safe mode. Then I restarted the system, and it loaded up the menu, but all my downloaded games were gone. Then I turned it off again, and it said "Updating database" (something it said every time it turned on after that memory card error), and then all my games were there! But when I tried uploading my save data to the cloud in case my Vita was dying, it said it couldn't connect to the cloud server. It showed all my saves, though.

Then while I was in that menu, the system booted itself again.

Then all my games were gone again.

Basically this process happened until finally it said that the memory card needed to be formatted for it to work on this Vita. I keep saying no, and it says the card will be unable to use on the Vita.

What the hell is going on? I can't use my memory card now... I have never touched it. I didn't drop the Vita from my bed to my couch; it landed softly both times, and now this happened. :(

I tried the content manager on the PS3, but I need to format the memory card on the Vita for that to happen.

It's not the worst thing in the world, I guess... the game saves are the bad part, mostly WipEout 2048, as I put an ungodly amount of time in that game... :( So much progress lost. I'm such an idiot... why didn't I upload the saves earlier, the moment I discovered I could upload them? I'm just... I'm an idiot. :(

Please tell me there is a way to transfer the data from the memory card? Or will a system restore allow it to use the memory card without formatting? There's so much data on it... I don't... I can't format it. :(

Any advice? This is the most coldhearted welcome I've ever received from a long-dormant game console.

It's not your fault that this system uses such an asinine concept for saving games.

The only thing I can think of is when people have battery problems the recommendation is to leave the Vita on until it turns off due to low battery, then charge it for at least 24 hours. I don't think it will help in your case, but it's worth a shot.

Otherwise, I think you're looking at reformatting and it will probably work fine.

I had a ps3 game freeze 5 consecutive times at the same spot. The 5th time I had to reformat my ps3 hard drive. Lost about 120 hours between Mass Effect and Dragon. Age, all my saves for psn games, Half Life 2, etc, etc, etc. If the hard drove goes on a ps3, you have to buy a new system. If you read this, maybe you don't feel as bad?

Call Sony about it. I hope you can get your saves back.

Really sorry to hear about the problem you had. I think contacting Sony about this would wise idea. If it's still under warranty they'll (hopefully) fix it without any applicable fee.

PS: I thought you were emulating Marie from P4G with your topic title. Sounds like something she'd say. :-)

Yesterday was among the *****iest days I've had in a while, and then this happened...

I guess calling Sony would be a good idea. Is there a way to get access to the memory card in question, though? Like connecting it to my computer, and getting into the file system? I couldn't use Content Manager on the PS3 because it considers my memory card as not being in there. :\
