Why is it that Sony just doesn't seem to know what they're doing with the Vita?

Right now, Sony should just do a new model of the Vita, lower the price of the system, and also make sure to lower the price of the memory card.

Right now, I still don't have a Vita since I'm waiting for a price cut and a model update. I want to get the 32 GB memory card as well. I just got myself my first 3DS..the 3DS XL in the Black-Black color. I'll be getting a 32 GB SDHC card as well as the screen protector and a case for it soon.

But the Vita.. >_<

Right now the Vita is the red headed stepchild that Sony just does not care about. We seen how they turned the PS3 around. Obviously, if their consoles take a hit it's a bigger concern for them (which isn't bad but still).

It's possible that by suddenly releasing an improved VITA for cheaper might garner less confidence with the platform.

When was the PSP 2000 released? 2-3 years after PSP 1000?

The problem with the Vita is that it sold about 5m units until now. They originally planned to sell about 16m Vitas/PSPs last fiscal year. In other words, Sony is most likely sitting on more Vitas than they can hope to sell in half a decade, so why make a revision already?

What they do is this.

1. The current overstock of the Vita they sell from $249.99 to $149.99 (both Wi-Fi and the one that also has 3G). Sony releases a Vita-2000 and prices it at $199.99.

2. Drop the 2GB and 4GB Vita Memory card and sell them at bargain price. Keep the 8GB, 16GB, and 32GB and introduce a 64GB and 128GB memory card. Then just cut the current MSRP by $10.

Releases coming in the US...

The only ones I think that are worth it are:

Killzone: Mercenary --> for fans of Killzone or FPS
Ys: Memories of Celceta --> niche RPG series though
Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate --> for Batman Arkham fans

Yea. Not much at all.

They deem that plan not YET worthy.

They'd rather profit a hair from the ailing product than lose millions by suddenly cutting prices.

Expensive cards are to help offset the small net profit from the VITA.

Obviously, their strategy right now is to net some from the few who purchase the system than to get much less or even losses by selling more VITA's at that low of a price.

Don't get me wrong, I'm personally more interested in Sony losing money and gaining more user base for the VITA.. and a new VITA as well (fckn OLED problems).. I'm just coming up with excuses why they're not doing that massive price strategy you've come up with.
