So after struggling for some time now on my HDTV with PS1 games i decided to give a Vita try. On my HDTV i tryed everything but games just look messy and overall really bad, kills the experience!

Not gorgeous. Small and pixely, you can apply smoothing but then they're blurry.. You can stretch the image but then it looks distorted.. some games have lots of slow down and lag issues. Colors are ok.

Overall?

You're better off getting a PSP if you're mostly wanting PS1 games.

It's much better than anything it'll look like on an HDTV, that's for sure. I personally think they look great, but if you're extremely picky I'm sure there are things that you can be annoyed by.

They work great though, look great, definitely sound great, and you can map R2/L2 or whatever button you'd like wherever you want with your own custom layout. Using the right analog stick or front touch to press buttons is actually pretty cool.

I don't know what ps1 classics you have been playing but FF8, FF9 and parasite eve 2 looked very good. Only issue is small screen but that's pretty much the only con.

I think PS1 games tend to look slightly better on the Vita than the PSP because of the better screen and colors. They don't look good these days no matter where you play them but better.

You can also customize the controls more on the Vita while the PSP forced you to map L2/R2 to the D-pad pretty much.

I think they look great IMO.

Obviously they will be pixelly (and stretched if you play in fullscreen) but the colors of the Vita screen are great IMO so I think they look nice :)

IMO they look great. I've played Crash Bandicoot 3, Gex DCG, Silent Hill and Resident Evil 2 on it. All of them looked as good as I could possibly see a PS1 game looking and better than I remember. I played them all with full screen mode and the smoothing shader on. I also don't know where the slowdown nonsense is coming from. The games ran smoothly and the loading times were pretty much non existent.
