buying a vita. what should my first game be?

Tearaway is a nice introduction to the Vita and uses all its features. Really good game IMO so I vote for that one. Ys might be my favorite among them though.

Get ps plus for at least 3 months ($18) and get the crap ton of cheap ass games like soul sacrfice, killzone and free games like uncharted, wipeout, etc.

I wouldn't worry about the 3G version. You can't play games on the 3G network, so all you would really have it for is internet and Netflix. Your phone probably has a better internet interface.

Ignore all the JRPG fans here, because that's all they ever recommend - JRPGs. People here on GFAQs don't seem to understand that they're not everybody's cup of tea.

Tearaway is definitely the best introduction to the Vita due to using all of it's mechanics in a very interesting way. Other great games that do this are Uncharted: Golden Abyss and LittleBigPlanet PS Vita.
