Wait, so is the 999/Zero VLR series pretty much done?

Recently beat Virtue's Last Reward, and read an article that the chances of a sequel, or completion to the trilogy was unlikely due to it's bad sales in Japan.

Thing is, the article date was from months ago. Have any updates been made as to whether or not they really will do the game? Or is it safe to say it'll probably never be made and we should just accept it?

It's on hiatus. They're working on a completely new game.

If you're lucky, that new project is secretly the 3rd part, just with different gameplay.
If you're unlucky, you're never getting to read the conclusion.

I read a while back we'd get info on it in late December. But we have heard nothing from them.

id read a while back that hey were thinking of putting the 3rd on kickstarter after they finished with their current project.
dont ask me for a source because its been a long while i read it. (the time they announced the other project and the 3rd would not come.
One of the devs said after a question about kickstarter.
that they might do it if there is enough demand.

pretty sure there is demand. so I really hope that what i read was not a hoax

No updates were made on the situation. I'm not thinking of the series as dead, but rather on hiatus. They need funding, and it's hard to get because the games don't sell well in Japan. I believe Uchikoshi and Spike Chunsoft would come through and make a third one if they ever can.

Hmm, they released the first game for ios not long ago. VLR aint that old either. I think they might release a sequel for ios or some very crazy multiplataform.

They could play the other Bard song live once in a while...

The problem is rather that, afaik, the Zero Escape 3 idea got rejected. It got put on indefinite hiatus and they announced that they're working on a new game. I don't remember much about that anymore, so some source would be nice.

They talked about that on bombin'intheam (giant bomb video podcast thing) a couple of months ago the creator is/was hesitant to do it but not closed off to the idea. The series doesn't do nearly as well in Japan as it does here.
