Voiceacting curiosities

#1Lun-SeiPosted 2/9/2013 1:46:37 AM
So, I have a big thing for voiceacting. And I had a field day with Anarchy Reigns since the game is fully voiced in all three of the languages I know (Italian, English, Japanese).

So here's some curiosities I found out - I guess it may not seem interesting to many, but if anyone wants a little bit of voice trivia about this game, here it is.

- Obviously, the Japanese audio lacks the added flavour of swearwords. I don't like swearing, but it suits this over-the-top game so well, that it feels like something is missing when you play in Japanese.

- The Blacker Baron is the most interesting as his lines change completely in every language. In English, he comments about being so black. in Japanese, he comments about being undefeatable. In Italian, he comments about being supersexy. Looks like every culture decided to put the accent on him being a stereotyped black guy, or on him being Madworld's final boss, or on him being a pimp.

- The English version has so many puns. "I was born horny!" "Ham it up!" "Shocking, isn't it?"...... really, I'm surprised they didn't make Durga say "This is purr-fect".

- Leo talks like a typical hero protagonist in English, and in Japanese. But in Italian, he's got the best taunt lines: "On your knees!" "I am the law!". Italy wins this one.

- Sasha and Nikolai have an awesome bad Russian accent when they speak Italian and English, but they don't have it when they speak Japanese.

- Mathilda's voice sounds more mature in Italian, but she's got a crazy laughter in English. Well ok this isn't much about voiceacting but about voiceactors.

- I didn't see that scene in other languages, but in Italian, Fei Rin and Ai Rin try to speak some Chinese words. The voiceactor for Ai Rin pretends to speak in Chinese rather well. But the voiceactor for Fei Rin..... uuuuuurgh.

- Jack's voice is very similar in all three of the languages. Can't say who voiced him best.

- I can't understand half of what the Baron is saying when he speaks in English.....

If anyone wants to add other things they noticed or they liked about the voices in the game, this is the topic to do so! :)

Aren't the Rin sisters voiced by the same person in English? And I may be the only one who thinks Steve Blum doesn't suit Jack at all. Maybe in Madworld but he's super bulk in AR and I think a more deeper voice suits human tanks more. The Japanese voice actor suits him a lot better IMHO.

EDIT: Whoops, I thought you were talking about the English voice actors for the Rins.

Everything you said is true and everything you stated about italian is actually in the very same circumstance for the dialogues in spanish as well.

I usually HATE spanish dialogues in games but this one was an exception as I left it on spanish and it sounds pretty good in general.

Baron, Douglas, Nikolai, Sasha, Oinkie and Big Bull dialogues are the best ones sometimes just for the way they say it.

Also Bayonetta seems to be the only one that is always in english isnīt it?

Woah, are they really voiced by the same person in English? I should check it out now...

Then again maybe it's better one single voiceactor if she's good, rather than the different Italian voiceactor for Fei Rin that delivers her lines so poorly? At least Ai Rin's Italian voice is pretty good.

It really depends on the character, when it comes to the Italian voices. I mean, some characters such as Baron and Jack have really good Italian acting, but other characters range from kinda mediocre (Nikolai or Sasha) to downright bad (Fei Rin).

I'm not as good as noticing the emotional quality of the voiceacting when it comes to a foreign language, but I was under the impression all of the characters have a decent voiceacting quality in English and Japanese. Need a confirmation from a native speaker tho.

For example I like how when Oinkie runs saying "bacon bacon", in the English voice, it really gives the impression of the fatigue a fatty is doing running so fast. XD And Durga sounds more sadistical in English - he just sounds playfully evil in Japanese and Italian.

Where'd you find that info? I'm curious to know who are the voiceactors...

It's all on wikipedia:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anarchy_Reigns

but only english and japanese voice actors are mentioned there.

The Rin sisters were voiced by Stephanie Sheh (who dubbed in like every game and anime in existence), so their chinese is probably real (it sounds pretty authentic to me, though I'm no chinese speaker).

Oooh! Interesting, interesting. Wish the other languages voiceactors were there too, but this is still good!

I'll have to reply that one scene of the Rin sisters vs Leo and Sasha, so I'll check out if their Chinese sounds real. (Well, I'm no Chinese speaker either, but I studied it in the past and maybe I know it enough to tell if it sounds correct.)
